hnnnrgh. So many people in the comments not understanding that terms of service do not indemnify a company against prosecution when fraudulently selling a non-functional product as functional and then trying to strip consumer rights in the ToS. The law doesn't work like that, why do so many people take ToS as written gospel so ARGH.

They updated the post.
UPDATE: EA has apparently changed its mind on Darkspore and updated the message leading into the forums to pledge continued support for the game. "Welcome to the Darkspore forums. Thanks for supporting the game," it says. "We recently resolved an issue that was causing some players to not be able to connect to the game. If you any encounter any other issues, please contact help.ea.com for customer support. We will continue to support Darkspore, so feel free to continue to discuss the game here."

Well ofc they did, they will try and stretch the law when they can but no business can openly operate illegally. When it was confined to rage on the darkspore forums probably 20 people (lol?) actually knew or cared and getting caught was low risk for them. Being outed in the mainstream gaming media left them wide open for slam dunk lawsuits if they didn't pull an immediate reversal. What they were doing was totally illegal and no amount of legal mumbo jumbo would change that, only restoring the product and claiming they didn't mean it really! could save them.

Apparently that issue wasnt even that recent, from what Ive heard Darkspore was unplayable for over a month! It probably doesnt have a huge playerbase, but even if theres only one person out there who plays it: Needing an upset on a media site to have a AAA-publisher make a game playable and not break the law is ridiculous. If theres still anyone out there defending EA and their actions over the last few years, now its time to drop it.
