i think basically he made a crap fix at the end of a long day and ran off to some party and really he'd gone from buggy release to breaking the game completely

When running server on x64bit OS, the map will not load chunks correctly.

looks like hes planning on fixing the current crippling bugs of chunk loading, tool breaking, and lighting problems tomorrow. So hes learning, everyone else expects him to break minecraft with new patches though so I don't know why he doesn't, looks like he played terraria all day then only realized afterwards he'd broken minecraft

server is fine map isn't. deadly tried this afternoon but didn't manage to get it working, servers still down because most people want to keep the same map right? At least e90, milli, me, brahms, burnie etc people who have put a fair amount of build time into it. If the map is screwed might have to start a new map though

I knew this was practically bound to happen, since I built a house at wolf bay the evening before the update came out. Bugger.

Also can we have daily backups of the worldfile to restore to in case of screwups?

As I have said before, and will continue to say until the end of time:

The minecraft server is, and has always been very unstable - whether it be corrupted maps, stupidly high CPU/memory usage etc. etc. and as such, while I'm happy to run one - you should always be aware that anything you do could be lost at a moments notice.

It happens. Others have sunk much more time into this map and I have exams/drinking to do, so I'm not fussed if we want to wait and see if a fix comes.

i've been editing the old map all afternoon, have tried all the suggestions found on reddit, i deleted the lock file, checked all the player.dats to make sure noone was sleeping and noone was in the nether. Then I found and deleted all the portals I could find. Still getting the same exception. This is a new error that people have only just been posting about. So either we wait for someone to find a fix or notch to address it, or we start a new map.

It still could be a portal issue because we have active portals and the old nether they linked to was deleted. I removed the portal at old spawn, the one in wolf bay, the one in burnies base, the one in hulinuts, the random one on the lake between hulinuts and burnies base. Were there any other active portals? This error was possibly occurring before the nether got nuked though so its possibly just some kindof portal corruption in 1.6

I'd be, well not happy, but resigned to loosing the map, lets have a nice new green one with all the new stuff like grass.

If we are starting a new map, me and brahms have been thinking about getting a multiplay minecraft server. It would mean deadly doesn't have to deal with it crashing or causing problems for the rest of the box, or me pestering him to update it.

Would also make it easy to try out some mods as it comes preconfigured with quite a few and you can select more to be installed. They also run a backup service and a few other things. Would cost us next to nothing and everyone would be welcome to come play on it.

Don't really want to start it up if people want to stay on the wdg server but if people think its a good idea and want to move onto it we'll start it up tomorrow or something?
