Couple of things about maps: 1. Most importantly, can you add markings to the map for important landmarks like your house, spawn and other sites of interest? 2. I presume if you change an area quite aggressively, like for instance chop down an entire forest you'll have to explore that area again to update your map. 3. On that note, notch should look at combining maps together where the two base maps compare which chunks have to the most up to date version and then construct a new map from that - whether or not the two base maps are kept for scrapped is a probably a matter of opinion. 4. I'm hoping for some way to export the map image into a .jpg file or something. Would be nice to have a server map on the forums and it'll give me something to do as I'm not really good at making creative looking buildings - cartography in Minecraft seems to have sparked an interest anyway.

I have some cartography software for MC installed on the server, so it creates maps/isometric views of the entire world. I ran it a few times on older worlds (and I'm sure I posted a few links here) and it's pretty impressive. The only problem is it completely chomps through the CPU/disk as it has to load/render all of the chunks of the world.

Isometric viewpoints make great pictures for components, not for maps.

Notch just tweeted a picture saying that two members of his team are working on the android implementation. They had it running on an experia play.

I think it's more a processor hog than a bandwidth hog. Though it's also a bandwidth hog.
Maybe they'll manage some performance improvements that will migrate to the main game?
This reminds me to turn fog back on... Wish he'd enable fog for the far distance instead of having it just abruptly cut off.

You do know you can link maps right? I think it has to be blank but you can create lots of copies and as long as someone updates the map everyone else gets the updates
