notch has been crap with blog posts lately so i have stalked his twitter. Some pretty important things, as well as the previously mentioned awesome maps: notch Markus Persson And because PC Gamer made such a big deal of the sky dimension, I guess I'll have to finish it. Consider it confirmed. 19 May sky dimension screenshots - http://imgur.com/a/cvsYWnotch Markus Persson You're the awesomest people ever! <3 Oh, and 1.6 is coming next week. 19 May Improved grass - http://i.imgur.com/JUEYD.jpgnotch Markus Persson Nether in SMP is almost working. I need to add some kind of chunks-to-generate queue and fix a few state retention bugs.. Fun! 16 May notch Markus Persson Yes, trapdoors. They work just like normal doors, except flat. They require a solid block next to them for various reasons. 16 May

Had a look around the server. Pretty awesome - took me a while to find the whole rail system! Might have to contribute at some point. If the map ever gets reset.... any chance of using this seed? Looks amazing: http://minecraft-seeds.net/view/24/-1784338777788894343

nice seed. I looked into optimizing the network traffic, but 80-90% is pure terrain data. We're going to have to invent better compression. ...Except notch i'm pretty sure you just repeatedly copy over complete chunks that are unchanged for no reason except you don't have local copies of the server map saved. Even just marking updated chunks only for redownload would probably be more efficient than his current method. When i'm riding the railway for instance I constantly see holes in the map as the server struggles to keep pace but much of the railway passes over inactive chunks, if i had a local cache of the map they'd already be there or even updated in idle time while i'm elsewhere.

im just raging that he hired all these programmers to program for him, and yet he doesn't have someone to do this kindof network optimisation and we get left with his crappy implementation. Did he just get all his programmers to work on other games and is hogging minecraft for himself? I'm liking all the new ideas but he really needs someone more technical to do some serious work while hes messing around happily with sky dimensions.
Don't forget the server as of wednesday when the patch is out will now be loading chunks from 3 maps at the same time... chunk loading and net bandwidth is going to take a big hit until he gets this shit sorted.
Last thing i want to see is deadly have to pull the plug on the mc server because its using too much bandwidth

To be fair to Notch, he hit success much quicker than anyone expected. Besides, it's not really fair to have a go at his implementation without knowing what it actually is (which I don't).
