Last week I went to my local NHS dentists, I explain my Tooth which already has a filling is a bit sensitive so I get an appointment.

Now I should pre-warn you before this epic saga begins that I have had issues with my NHS dentists, nothing to do with the fact, they are polish, latvian, russian, spanish, greek, portugeese etc etc and keep changing. MY issue is they tend to be a bit shit at the job, but finding a replacement dentist on NHS is not exactly easy.  Best bit was when some tit tried to pull my wisdom tooth forgetting he hadnt given me an injection, or the one who took a look at my wisdom tooth, said he wouldnt try pulling it, because if anything went wrong then he didnt have the right tools to fix or in case of an emergancy, then decided he should try pulling it.

So anyways it was with some trepidation I went and was introduced to a spanish dentist with a pornstar name, he was new, he took a look said something along the lines of "mummble, mummble, mummble el scorhio" so he advised with the aid of nurse who translated that he would replace the filling. Through the course of the work, it became clear he was dicking the nurse in his spare time. So after lots of injections, my filling was done. I left.

The next day,  the pain started, and got worse, it through out the day got so bad, I was popping co-codamol and any type of pain killer I could get my hands on, none of it helped, my upper and lower jaw was on fire, my teeth felt like they had just been pulled without the aid of anesthetic (something I can speak of from experience). I didn’t get a wink of sleep Thursday night.

Friday morning I have left about a dozen messages with my Dentist, no response, much messing about reveals that no dentist has turned up for work, they cant help me and refer me to NHS direct. NHS Direct in short said bugger off, your registered with a Dentist we don’t help scum like you, speak to your Dentist. A rather enraged call later to my Dentist resulted in me getting an appointment with another dentist part of their group 8 miles down the road.
By this time, I am the walking wounded, my missus drives me to the Dentists, this actually helps, it made me concentrate and fear for my life.
The Dentist spent 2 hours sorting out what was essentially the fuck up made by the other Dentist, he being a clever bugger had drilled to the nerve, then put the filling into it and on it, applying pressure when the cement hardened which cause the nerve bundle to scream. Hence the pain. When this Dentist did the work, my whole body kind of did a giant sigh.

End result I am moving dentists as this one is stable and the Dentist you see this month, will be the same as next months etc.
This leaves me with the thoughts of what to do, now I have tried the official complaints procedure before but got nowhere. Legal options are limited, and burning the Dentists down with the Dentists in it is apparently against the law. So what to do, send them parcels of Dog shit?? Who knows.

Any suggestions.

Forgot to add, several sets of anti-biotics, a temporary filling and not allowed to have a beer, because hehe one of the anti-biotics is also given to Alcoholics and will make you vomit if alochol hits your stomach.

Oh and I paid for this privilage.

i've had a stupid amount of dental work done (in fact i'm going next week but only for a check up ) but since way back when, when my dad had a root canal done with no anaesthetic, we've been on private care.

i would recommend getting dental insurance because, though the NHS is usually ok, the NHS dentists are sadistic bastards.

I've avoided the dentist for the last 4 and half years. i think my noly option is to return to my original dental practce a 100 miles away.

Sorry to hear you've had a rough time dude. Hope you recover from the trauma soon.

Just lucky really, My mum never bought me any fizzy drinks or candy as a kid either which probably helped.

My dentist is sorta inside the cadbury factory (sort of ironic), the guy is actually better then the private one I used to go to.

Thank god I am blessed with rather maintenance free teeth -- So far regular brushing has kept them quite happy. (Okay, I had two of my front incisors taken out as a kid to make room for the rest, and my molars sealed up)

I shuddered from imagining the pain you described alone. Can't you sue them for mistreatment and/or pain damages?

I guess you'll just need to put it down to experience and move on Earthy. If it's any consolation, it's not just NHS dentists.... I had my jaw fractured by a woman dentist in the marines while she tried and failed to do a simple wisdom tooth extraction (yeah, I know I shoulda had them put in). Fortunately she ran out of bigger sets of pliers and I think she got too tired to wield Mjolnir the mighty lump hammer left over from Thor's last tooth extraction. It was 10 days before I could get to hospital so they could finish the job!
Next one was on a type 43 destroyer in a fjord somewhere in Norway (it may have been the one that the dead parrot was pining for )...I shattered my front teeth in a freak skiing accident and again, 1 week later I finally got the chance to have them seen to. Anyway, the so called matelot dentist threw me in the fucking chair and then proceded to dig away at my gums with a scalpel, ignoring my pleas for some kind of anaesthetic and just kept shouting at me not to swallow the blood. Fortunately, I'd been through the pain threshold about 3 days earlier so it wasn't as bad as I could have been. Methinks some bootneck had been shagging his mrs in plymouth and he only just found out
Lastly, going back 45 years, my mum went in for a check up and the drunken bastard removed 6 of her teeth!!! He's probably a relative of the cnut that did your filling

If I wasn't worried about dentists to start with...


I remember hearing a tail of how to better manage the dentist visit phenomena. And that was to turn it in to a symbiotic experiance. This is achieved by reaching between the dentist's legs and gentaly holding on to his scrotum. Any sensations of pain that you experiance can be expressed and transfered with ease from yourself to the dentist.
