Garry "that guy who made garry's mod" newman didn't like it. I've got no real interest in it until it comes down in price and is generally agreed to be quite good and not a deliberately mindless lazy port that I suspect it is.

I played about a couple of hours or so last night and and a few hours this morning and it really is everything I was expecting; good and bad.

The good is very good though, whilst the bad is just anoying really.

Firstly, before launching the game I downloaded the ini editor thing (I can forward this on to anyone that needs it btw, I had a right ballache finding it) and changed the FoV, sorted the mouse accel and uncapped the framerate, so I can't speak about any of those problems, other then the fact I have to download a programme from the internet to do something that should be in an options menu is stupid but thats neither here nor there, nor exclusivly a Bulletstorm problem. Other signs of rubbish portness are in the menus, which have to be navigated by using WASD/arrows when we have a perfectly good mouse sat there doing nothing, and the multi-purpose buttons things (shift is at the same time sprint, slide and mantle, the action button is also reload etc) which again isn't a problem only found with Bulletstorm.

Once I got into the game though, I was reminded of the first time I played Duke Nukem; "when am I going to get the next cool gun?", "whats Grayson going to call a dick next?" etc. The story is wafer thin so far and I don't see that changing any time soon, but Grayson himself is a decent enough protaganist and I find myself genuinly laughing at some of his one liners/interaction with others. The guns are silly and feel powerful and each come with a charge mode that basically is twice as powerful as a normal shot and explodes (theres a really cool revoler with a charge shot that is exactly like the flare gun from Timesplitters <3).

Graphically, it looks pretty good to me; some of the landscapes early doors are really amazing and, more importantly for a UE3 game, colourful! Whilst there is the odd brown section, there's also a lot of contrasting, vibrant colours which is really refreshing to see, not only in this genre but also the engine. The weapon animations are smooth and all the guns feel really powerful

The skillshots are all kinds of fun, but a lot of the time will be based on luck rather then skill as in a frantic firefight you're just trying to thin out the numbers so will end up randomly getting a new one without really knowing what you did, and then using the ones you know on the remaining enemies. Bullet slide seems to be the one I'm using the most, but I'm trying to mix it up and try out all the different ones as they're unlocked, mainly because the game really isn't special if you're not playing it like it wants to be played. When you do though and you start chaining together skillshots its the most satisfying thing in the world and really does make the game well worth playing IMO. It's worth emphasising that again; if you play with the skillshot system, try and unlock the new ones as you get them and use as many different ones as possible, the game is 100 times more fun then just running through headshotting with the assult rifle.

All in, I'm glad I bought it, I can see myself playing through it a couple of times, but it definatly won't be everyones cup of tea.

Agree with Hz on pretty much everything. When some of the other reviewers have said that you almost feel ashamed for not doing a skillshot on someone - it's pretty true. Seeing +10 flash up when you've not done a skillshot is pretty embarassing - but then you make up for it by latching a flail onto someone, kicking them into a group of enemies and then detonating for a showering of points all over the screen and you're all like 'HELLS YEAH'

Yup - story is pretty thin - but it really doesn't matter. The dialogue between the characters is pretty fun.

Just got this. wanted a lightweight fun shooter and got it.

Love the graphics, scenery and colours. Spot on and massive scale.

All in all, Deadly and Hiz have reviewed this as I would have done. Glad I bought it, fun for a while not sure if there will be anything to come back for, but loving it while it lasts.

Worth the money...

EDIT: Forgot to add... WTF is it with modern games... I find myself getting MOTION SICKNESS after a while!

Bump!

Picked this up a few days back for £3.75 and just finished up the Campaign. Had a huge amount of fun, absolutely recommended if it turns up for that price again.

Uhhh... there's been a demo for it since it was released, or maybe before... I forget, but playing the demo was what made me buy it back around release.
The campaign is certainly entertaining, they went overboard on the swearing, but it doesn't detract from how fun it is.

As well as the awesome dinosaur robot, you get to blow up a gigantic mining wheel thing while riding an anti-grav train, then you piss off a gigantic.... dinosaur like thing that you end up fighting from a helicopter as it trashes skyscrapers. Oh, and you demolish parts of a dam. Yeah... the main character's a kind of a "blow up first, swear at it later" kinda guy :p
