So to derail (it's 7 posts and still just about on topic wtf?)-
Looking at my account on Orange's website, I can get a shiny new phone and I think it's about time I stepped into this world of so called 'smart phones' but I hate Apple.

There's about 29 phones on this list and I don't really know anything about specific phones anymore so can someone help me find a better-than-iPhone alternative? =p

Something with android. I'd prefer our corporate overlords to be evil advertising geeks than evil trendy owners of disney.

Phones with Android on my list; HTC Tattoo Ink, Motorola DEXT, HTC Desire (+£99.99 though, so no.), Xperia X10 (+£149.99…), Xperia X10 Mini, LG Optimus

fuck me. Look at the top deal from vodaphone. 24 month contract at £55 per month except the first 17 months are free. Ok you get raped for 7 months for a total of £385 but still, you'd pay more for the phone without a sim let alone 24 months.

Works out cheaper than the smaller contracts as well. For instance the cheapest contract is £30 a month with 16 months half price, that totals in at £480

Be careful with those kinda sites, a lot of them have dodgy loopholes to scam out out of the stuff like that. dont get me wrong a few are genuine but I would be very wary if I was you

Fixed. I love that they were trying to sell us on iAd being a great new feature of iPhone.

Anyway, on the hardware side it looks awesome, thin, great battery (though not user replaceable so performance will degrade and you cant just get a cheap spare on ebay :/ ) and a brilliant screen (60% more pixels per inch than any other phone, so it's going to be sharp as hell). 4:3 makes a lot more sense for web browsing on a phone than 16:9 as well.

 It also apparently uses the metal band around the edge as an antenna so possibly better reception. WiFi N is cool too, though I expect it to be a battery hog.

The A4 chip (same as iPad) is pretty nippy too, and Apple is better able to optimise the drivers and OS for their hardware than Android.

Still, Android is the superior OS, Proper home screens with widgets and a much better notification system and Gmail integration.  Give it a few months and HTC and co will have matching or better hardware out too.
