Ive put around 10 hours in this sofar. For now, I really, really like it, the level of detail in it is enormous, hundreds of emails, chatlogs you can read through, hundreds of persons you can talk to and all presented in a very polished "level" design (and lets not forget Michael McCanns BRILLIANT score). Maybe a hokey comparison but Human Revolution has everything Ive kinda missed or didnt like in Mass Effect 2: Its not as linear, it doesnt force you to shoot your way through every room and the dialogue/conversations are such a step forward, there were some really cool scenes sofar where I could argue with people and could understand their emotions and reasons (
When youre meeting your old police buddy and talk about your SWAT-past with him, that was a brilliant and touching conversation just on an emotional level
). I get to feel with the characters which is always a good thing, Jensen sounds a bit too boring though to me, but other than that hes a badass!

Im not really far into it actually, been doing alot of sidequests in the first "area" youre in and now headed to the second one. Will definitely power some more hours into it, but sofar: Brilliant game!

Just finished it after roughly 28 hours of playtime. My initial thoughts on the ending:

---
First of all, the last "bossfight" was a complete joke. Well I didnt go for a non-lethal playthrough (I played the game the way I would do in these situations so it was mix of nonlethal and panickills), so I had a laserrifle and it took me about 40 seconds to defeat the robot. Wut?

Then the ending(s). Brrrr. I chose the ending in Sarifs favour since he made the decision to save my life and because over the course of the game I grew sympathy with all the pro-augment characters. What I got was rather disappointing. A 2 minute stock footage clip with Jensen talking about how mankind always overcomes its challenges and stuff. It was so generic and I felt really unrewarded for all the work Ive done. I really would like to see how Sarif Industries continues and how Taggert and all the other pro-humans continue their lifes since I saved them in the end. What happened to Jensen? You know absolutely nothing at the end, theres a short clip with Megan after the credits, but it just hints at stuff, maybe a sequel? Who knows. I felt let down at the end. And also it was kind of disappointing that they just gave you each ending at the end to choose rather than judge you on your performance in the game. You could have literally killed every pro-human activist and still decided to help them at the end by sending the real message to the media. Wut? That doesnt make sense! Sad So afterall: Great game but rather stupid ending.
---

So on a more reviewish side: As Ive said already, the amount of detail put in this game is really incredible. The thousands of emails you could read through really did it for me. I had a blast reading them and allthough 98% of them were unrelated to your mission, it helped getting you into the world of Deus Ex. It felt like Uplink and the old Deus Ex, but with even more random stuff. Awesome!

The combatsystem is really good imo. Afterall its a covershooter and while not everyone loves em, you have to give them credit for making the "goin-in-cover" as flawless as possible. Many of these games (like Rainbow Six Vegas) struggle when it comes to obstacles in the way or weird angles but in this it the switching between cover always worked well no matter how weird the angles were or w/e. The menshooting was intense enough on the normal difficulty, unless you put points in the armor augmentations it needs no more than 3 shots and youre down. Especially when it got to the end that made for awesome stealth parts and - if I made a mistake - even more awesome shooting parts. When you sneaked past dangerzones it felt rewarding and I never really got bullshitted by the average AI when it came to tricking them out.

The music in this is also a strong point. Michael McCann put alot of effort in giving places like Sarif Industries or Detroit a special feeling to it. The music that would kick in in stealth and action segments was really cool and felt alot like in old Splinter Cell Games (where he also worked on with Amon Tobin). Kudos to that!

So afterall, this is a great game that catches alot of the stuff that Deus Ex 1 had and compliments it with modern game elements. I had a blast playing it and will sure try a non-lethal playthrough soon. Definitely recommending this Smiley
