I'd like to point out that there oh so generous cancelling of preorders is because under European law you could sue the shit out of them if they refused. Distance selling regulations in the EU grant you the right to withdraw from a service contract for a couple of months after signing up until service is begun. Legally you could argue service does not begin until you first start downloading a game and with a fancy lawyer win that, but in the case of preorders their ass is on a platter.

Well valves own internal definition of the start of service seems to be release day, regardless they do refund all preorders afaik and it would be pretty easy to defeat them in court if they refused.

Mmm, started playing this - it is enjoyable, but I've only played the opening area. Much more interesting setting and plot from the outset though (that is, Megaton was boring). Factions, lots of skill checks in conversations, etc. - made myself kind of a middle man to see how I enjoy different stuff.

I've put it on hardcore mode (on normal) so I have extra stats to keep up. Will mean I'll get into more food collecting and so forth, but mainly it means stimpacks don't heal instantly; I found it hard not to abuse this in FO3. We'll see how it goes. Waiting to see what companion I can get, I think I'll need some combat help when I leave the safer areas.

Companions give no combat help really, they're just pack mules used for carrying stuff.

I could never really been bothered to get a companion in both games, they were mostly just a pain to carry with. For example that dog you find in the junkyard in FO3, I think he survived one battle and then died immediatly

I think Im halfway through the mainstory now. I cant really say anything negative about this game since its exactly like Fallout 3 which I loved and can easily list in my top 5. But I can understand if people would judge it based on the fact that its just the same game without improvements. The story and the new map itself make it worth the purchase imo but only if you liked Fallout 3. If not, well its the same game, you wont like this either.

I really like it so far; think I may have to start again though as I'm pretty sure I've buggered my stats up . I went hardcore and put all my points into weapon/lockpicking/repair skills and now I can't cook anything or heal myself properly...

Going to spend most of tonight and a lot of tomorrow blitzing it, I love how imersive these new Fallout games are, they're so easy to get stuck into

I was too much of a badass to have Fawkes as a companion; Dogmeat freaking owned though, I just got him on my latest F3 playthrough and he's soloing supermutants :S
