In the last clan that papa and I and several of the rest of you lot were in, papa started a why did you choose your game name thread, so this time i'm asking, as i frequently look at some of the people viciously murdering me and think i wonder where they got that name and why.

I'll get the ball rolling of course.

I actually chose HeX when i started playing CSS and felt i was very bad at it indeed, rather how i feel about TF2 at the mo, and decided that i would be a curse on any clan daft enough to take me on, hence HeX.

Now it's your turn to satisfy the nosey member of WDG.

I love this thread!

I started gaming online a long time ago, playing CS. When I first started gaming and chose my name I chose Fade. This was inspired by James Herbet's 'DUNE', a character, who was the nephew of Baron Harkonen (played by Sting, in the Dino De Laurentis adapation of Dune) was called Feyd, pronounced Fade, get it

This was may game name for several years and the one mad2moons first met me with in [SHITE], the first clan I was in. When my son Cameron was born, I added the Papa to the front, in line with another of our members, a Dane called 'DaddyDukat'.

So there u have it PapaFade, the history of

Gonk as in stupid because when I started playin CSS I didn't have a clue "plant the friggin bomb" etc Some may say I'd not improved much by the end of my CSS adventures lol. oh and obviously I'm not thick - honest!

Magathery is down to Fade actually. That's the short anser to it.

The more complex version heralds from over 15 years ago. When me and Fade were budding teeenagers, one of our passtimes was role play games (hands up all those with images of bizzar bed time naughtyness? Come on own up) No no NO! Role play games as in Dungons & Dragons kind of things.

Anyway, my favorite character I used to play was called "Ripsaw". A handel I used for many years. Getting back to the thread, the "Ripsaw" character evolved in one called "Magather Eliath Carndros" (Not sure on spelling). This was because Fade was a bloody good games master with a great talent for plot and story telling. So after using the "Ripsaw" hadel for many years, I found that it had too many tie ins. Namely it's assosiation with [SHITE]. Without burdening this thread with that chapter of my life, I left Ripsaw behind and adopted the handel of Magathery.

My gaming presance had deminished greatly over the last few years. Fade did introduce me to TF2 but I'm way to self consious as a "noob" to this particular game, that I've only played it twice so far. Truth be told the game baffels me some what. That and the fact that I can't hit the broad side of a barn even when stood next to it

So Magathery is an alter-ego to Ripsaw, which in turn originates from my Dungeon & Dragons genra past.



PS: Isn't "Gonk" one of the droid types fron Star Wars?

Got my name because it was the sound I made when I was a stoned teenager playing TFC everytime I got killed. Also its short and easy to remember so people don't waste time saying excessive syllables when they're tring to warm me about the spy tryng to stab me

No good story behind Claws, unfortunately. I just look around the room and pick the first short word that comes to mind. I could have ended up with Sponge or Oven, but I kinda like Claws more.

I honestly can't remember where mine came from. I've been using it since I was about 16 and playing Call of Duty, although I called myself Emblem from time to time.

Ok, this is where I come out as a part time Nintendo geek then! I guess a lot of you already know this, but Mode 7 is a shiny graphics mode on the SNES that lets you lay down a bitmap onto a plane to spin around and such like to give the illusion of depth. Used in F-Zero, some of the Final Fantasy series etc. Often I shorten to md7 (not in TF2 so much, more back on CSS when I couldn't be bothered to type it out everytime I added or removed my tag... yes, I am that lazy).

Other than that, I also use the alias icassu in some instances, which is acronym from a lyric in 'The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite' by R.E.M.: "I can always sleep standing up".

EDIT: Also, as I forget such things, I use the name pan.am.slit.scan from time to time, which is an obscure Kasabian B-side.

Gonks are also them little troll things - BUT I've got a skinhead and I'm 6f!
"Gonked" is also getting beaten to death with dildos! I may start typin that when I shoot ppl! lol

[Millicent Bystander]

The name Millicent Bystander is from the film Flushed Away. The main character says "I'm just an innocent bystander" and is misheard by the bad guys who call him Millicent for the rest of the film.

Previously I'd used the name Faysal in Planetside and before that Ultima Online where I was better know as Brand.  It was a crap name (all the good names were taken) and I was looking for a new name that made everyone smile.
