Oddly, I'm Labour 51%, Lib Dem 50%, Tory 49% - seems it's not a good idea to say 'open minded' to stuff you don't have an opinion on. Although it made me realise I'm basically Lib Dem on policies, apart from their stupid position on nuclear power.

i'm curious to know what policies I have in common with them

If you mouse over the Info button next to each question it tells you what stance each party has on it.

At the moment, further nuclear power investment really isn't a good idea until we can get out of this recession jobby and get the economy booming again.
And to be honest, with the decommission cost and the radioactive waste, they aren't ideal at any rate. Although I disagree with the Lib Dems wanting to get rid of nuclear power completely, it would still be better to find alternatives.

Yeah but from a science point of view its nuclear or blackouts, theres no choice, renewables are just shit atm, with some breakthroughs they might get better but our country is not ideal all we've really got is wind and tide and the investment cost to get those generating enough power is ridiculous. We've got an energy deficit hitting in the next decade and at the moment we can't cope any other way than investing in nuclear or having blackouts. We might cope on gas and stuff but certainly not with all the stupid carbon reductions we've agreed to. I guess we'll probably just renege on those in the end. We should have built a new generation of nuclear reactors previously but everyone loves to complain about it, renewables would probably be up to scratch in say 20 years after another nuclear generation but not now. Although my favourite answer is still fusion but thats hideously under invested too.

Im fine with waiting a while on Nuclear for new breeder reactor designs to come out, there are a few countries working on them right now so after they finish the heavy lifting on design and prove they work well we can buy a copy of the blueprints and mass produce them.

If I were cynical I'd say that all the carbon reduction push the Gov't is doing now is just so we have some breathing room for a load of coal reactors (UK has plenty of coal reserves) to tide us over for a couple of decades whilst decent nuclear designs are perfected.

Nicked off NuB site, how much is your vote worth?

Apparently mine is worth 0.798 of a vote

.....and I thought I'd get a cash offer Sad

In Stoke-on-trent Central, one person does not really have one vote, they have the equivalent of 0.030 votes.

A vote in my constituency is worth 1.077 because it's a marginal seat, and 70% of voters didn't vote for the winning candidate. Of course this is Northern Ireland where people vote based on their religion and the 3 main Westminster parties doesn't field candidates.

How can the average UK voter power be 0.253? Surely it should be an average of 1.

don't let that site put you off voting though. I don't think its predictions are going to cope well with the upheaval of votes this year. I had a look at the wavertree ward where most students live and thats already 40% lib dem and 49% labour and the site puts that down as a safe ward. Ordinarily I'd agree but I think theres a strong chance this year of lib dem taking it.

its calculated with the previous years results in mind, the idea that a safe seat is one that will go to one party almost certainly means that in the current system all votes against that party are rendered useless

Yeah, it's First past the post system. If you don't vote for the winner, it doesn't matter who you voted for, it has no effect on who is elected to parliment or who holds power. This is why everyone is egging it on about "Hung parliaments" and so forth.

Bloody ridiculous, learnt that since I started voting, but only the Lib Dems really want to change it (you should have heard the stupid Iain Duncan Smith this morning on Today).

Not sure what they want to replace it with though (although likely it'd be a better majority system - like voting for candidates in number order, some examples on that wikipedia page), not terribly sure there is much that is worse....

Fascinating site though. Yeah, doesn't account for the massive opposition to more Labour, but then again, I am sure a lot of safe seats will still be safe...
