Hmpf, I'm finally getting BFBC2 and my PC is breaking down
Playing BC2 for about 5 minutes blue screens me, fur mark freezes the PC in about half a second.
Now I just got a freeze for about a minute during surfing.

Is that the graphics card or can that be something else too?

When you get the Blue Screen.. what error codes are shown? Have you Googled them?

If you're freezing during web surfing, no, not graphics card related - it's a tiny, tiny amount of GPU time dedicated to drawing the windows UI. I mean so small it's almost not registrable in GPU measuring tools! I'd be surprised if it was that.

Memory, overheating, components not properly connected, or windows itself barfing on something software-side (like an app demanding all the CPU for a while) could all be an issue I'd bet.

4 gigs ram + 4 gigs Page file, playing on medium settings. Oh and the beta ran without a single crash whatsoever. I really, really doubt it, but I'll watch in on the next testrun.

The codes are
0x00000116 (0xfffffa8003bdf010, 0xfffff88010353a20, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000002)
A quick google for the code strongly points towards Nvidia.
I think the suspected driver was nvlddmkm.sys (an Nvidia driver) (not sure, event log doesn't show it . I'll provoke another one in a minute to check)
One of the reasons I jumped immediately at the GPU is that a friend of mine (remember the thread a short while ago?) bought nearly the same computer at nearly the same the and recently his GPU died, with very similar symptons.

True, though aero is gpu accelerated and like I said, the symptons during surfing are way less severe and not as often. But yeah, those freezes threw me off too.

I'll see if I can get a memtest through today, but it's very odd that this problems come out of nowhere all of the sudden. A few days ago I could play TF2 for hours without problems, today furmark instantcrashes the PC.
Thinking about it, the only big change I made today was install BFBC2 (and therfor a new punkbuster).
Ah, and new nvidia drivers, but AFTER the crashes started.

OK, tried playing BFBC2 again:
Immediately after joining a server (when the loading screen goes away) the screen became white and the sound started looping.
My G15 showed normal RAM-usage, one CPU core running amok, the rest being pretty bored.
A few seconds later the G15 screen froze, a few later it got empty and my computer screen got black.
Then the monitor lost the signal from the graphics card (it started searching for a digital/analog connection).
The above was written on my PC, and I wanted to also tell you that when I logged on again, windows informed me that I've had a bluescreen (must have happened after the monitor lost the signal), however I am typing these lines on my laptop, since my PC froze during typing.
Once again the frozen G15 shows a single amok CPU core, which tbh. points away from a GPU problem.
However, after another minute or so of the computer being frozen, purple patterns showed above the frozen image, but went away after a few seconds, which suggests graphics card again.
A few more minutes later (5+?): The screen just unfroze and windows informed me that the graphics driver has "crashed and been recovered".


The new error codes are: : 0x00000116 (0xfffffa8004ceb4e0, 0xfffff88010339d50, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000002), aka not really that new.

Those are all standard for BFBC2...frequent white screen crashes, high cpu load (with one core at 100%).

Dunno about the purple stuff though? The rest are definitely bc2.

Yup, I today have had a white screen, a ctd, and a freeze with looping sound. Fun fun fun. And their multi-core thing is ballsed I think. One recent patch updated 6 core cpus to use the 4 core work map instead of single core but quite possibly theyve forgotten to make 4 cores use the 4 core map as well :/

Also the menus are laggy as hell

Furmark causing crashes points to it being a buggered graphics card. Uninstall and run a driver cleaner on your drivers and install one of the older driver releases (one of the recent releases messes with the fan and causes overheating and crashes)
You can get Rivatuner to display GPU temperatures and fan speeds, there's even g15 integration, have a look at what temps you are getting before a crash.

If it's still crashing Try underclocking it by 10% and see if that helps.

there is a new replacement driver with a fix that came out yesterday. I'd check the temps and give the card a good cleanout with an air duster for god measure. Especially if your getting artifacts on screen.
