Civ V SDK has been released. Will have a look at familiarising myself with the tools first (and installing some 3rd party programs for it) before I start thinking about creating a mod, if I ever get 'round to it.

Played a bit of a starting game, mmm, less units, less map...I'll have to see if this change in scale and breadth is massively affecting or not, diplomacy as noted in many other places seems seriously opaque though (the AI developer in me cries at this).

The game seems to be very slow paced. Really hate the trade posts, much preferred Civ 4s cottages.
Am I being stupid or is there now no way of changing what resources your city produces
Overall I'm loving the game though

Top right is the tab where you select the "priorities" of the cities. You can also distribute working citizens manually.

Manually is probably better early game. If you've played Civ 4: Colonisation you get a better feel for tile workings with limit citizens and taking priority of growth or production or try and balance between the two. btw, Egypt is OP: * Egypt civ unique building is too rewarding. It has 0 maintentance and 2 culture and 2 happyness rendering the construction of any other happyness building overall useless.
* Egypt with their civ unique treat combined with marble and +33% wonder building policy constructs wanders faster then normal buildings(Pyramids 11 turns/Granary 15 you get the picture).

can we get a tier list of the leaders going?
Tier 1 Egypt: Wonder production is insane. China: Their archer can win entire games by themselves. Japan: Attacking at full strength while wounded?!? wow. India: Happiness bonus?! shouldnt this be on a war civ because its an insanely good thing to have!
Tier 2 Russia: if you can keep the units pumping out the bonus allows you to outnumber the enemy severely however not always easy to keep this balance. Germany: if you can get a lot of emcampments you could dominate the world in no time at all! however a small island map would limit them. Persia: if you can keep a golden age going they could be tier 1 but otherwise fairly average Greece: nothing special here. Siam: has cultural victory witten all over them.
Tier 3 Ottomans: so when do i even get to see naval barbarian units?!?!
this is all in my opinion and based on very limited playtime so feel free to argue and add some suggestions.

india is made for cultural win blue, their castles produce culture, and eventually gold, and the extra happy you route through piety social and it gets converted into culture. I got cultural win with 1 city as ghandi, i've not even come close with other civs although I did completely spec out my social policies and wonders.

It's all strange to me! I enjoyed the Civ5 demo, but really did not understand half of what I was doing!

It's all strange to me! I enjoyed the Civ5 demo, but really did not understand half of what I was doing! Neither do I, John. I just randomly guess where to put stuff, sometimes. Besides, in the easier modes you could just let the adviser pick which tiles to work; manage cities, etc. Tbh, it's much easier on the micromanagement than Civ IV. Moving on, I did see an interesting topic on some really good Civ V mods. I'll post the article URL when I can find it again... xD!

i only ever bother to micro when i have a small empire. Not much point when you have mass most likely you can just build enough tanks to crush your enemies.
