So far I had a good opinion when it comes to a British turists, nice atitude , behavioral culture, not demanding guests, which for me is enough to have respect towards them I don't really care they are cheap basterds and they don't leave any tip . But today they went one step further, 2 tables each had a bill of 10-15 euros in a different time period of my work shift left without paying the bill ! So if you expecially my british mates here want me to still have a good opinion about your people and your country it would be nice of you all to cover my deficit  hahaha Just joking but this was my day so far

I always try to overtip but when i worked in a bar/restaurant here there were a lot of tight bastards. Partly I blame the rise in alcohol prices, some employers don't allow employees to have tips, etc this country is fairly bad compared to europe for it.

Sup y'all. Tonight has been an interesting evening. I was invited to Tom's mrs birthday BBQ which essentially entailed attempting to make conversation with the polish population of Slough. Some of which was successful. The only english conversation was made with Tom's parents. Right now I am the only English speaking person here. Hizfag would normally count, but right now he's really pissed dancing outside to creedance clearwater revival and cannot speak english, or any language for that matter. Have lost count of the amount of times I've had to bite my tongue from making tiny polish remarks. Not very much to follow, after this:

It's because we don't have a tipping culture in the UK. It probably goes back to British politeness - we traditionally find it pretty rude to publicly judge people - which is what tipping is really about for BOTH the employee and the customer. If staff expect a 10% tip to live off, then just put a 10% service charge on the damn bill, or better yet, pay and mange them properly in the first place rather than shifting the dirty work onto your customers.

Also, screw Bellhops - the self-entitled bastards.


For disclaimer, I have worked as a waiter in the past. Tips mean a lot more when they are unasked for - it's a real reward for doing an exceptional job, rather than a charity handout that the guests were forced into.

Yeah - generally when I'm eating out it's with a bunch of mates or something, so we generally just divide up the bill and then leave the change. We don't generally leave a 10% tip.

But yeah...if they need the tips - then put a 10% service charge on, people are generally too polite to take it off.

If the service has been really good though - then I'm generally happy to leave a tip.

If you want a tip - do the best god-damn job you can and offer exceptional service with a smile. Sure - you'll get some stingy bastards like us who don't leave much, but I'm sure you'll get better tips. Oh...and have boobs.

I pay the person direct in cash, to ensure they get the tip. I only pay if they deserve it, I refuse to tip for bad service no matter how badly the people are paid (if I reward the bad service there is no incentive to change it is there?).

I don't think I've ever tipped. I really dont understand the mechanics behind it. The establishment has products and services. I have consulted the price list and made my dession. They provide what I've asked for. I pay them what they said they wanted for it.

I don't like tipping, but its the way the system works and I'd just be screwing over the staff *shrug*. Service has to be pretty bad for me to not tip at all, I'm stupidly British about it.

YAY! I've spent all morning doing QA on an Excel spreadsheet and then making an 100,00+ line notepad document fit into a different Excel spreadsheet...I wonder if I can bill these guys for my rapidly deteriorating eyesight?
