Jesus, I remember those things. I was looking for data administrator roles in Berkshire and was getting building and construction work jobs in Yorkshire. No wonder umeployments so bad at the moment, the job centers a fucking joke!

Management presented ambitous goals for next year and indicated the measures planned to achieve those goals.
Read: Higher expectations and more pressure. Deserters will be shot.
What makes things worse is that two of my three bosses have no concept of 'motivation' and no understanding who to create an environment in which people are willing to push forward. These are people who believe we should kiss their feet for having a job and should walk across broken glass out of pure thankfulness. And don't realize that they achieve the opposite by having employees who make just enough to meet the minimum requirements to get by without blame. But since that is not enough and expectations on a larger scale are still not met results are unsatisfactory and the pressure will be increased again.

Though, in all fairness, there are tons of worse jobs than mine. And I have to admit that I'll get fairly well paid.

Well it's Monday, so it was back to work for me. So in true style I visited a variaty of customer sites and perfomred my asigned duties.

Spent most of today wondering why I decided to redesign my barcode check digit checker; 4 times I've tried to refine the formulas, 4 times I've ended up with the exact same fucking thing as before .

Yup, thats the baby. The boss wanted me to come up with something that would let us bosh out between 50 and 100 check digits though so I have to come up with some way to do it in Excel. Starts getting tricky when you have leading 0's though which are slowly becoming the bane of my existence .

Ensure cells are formatted with text and have a leading ' character. This forces leading zeroes to be shown in a cell (where normally they would not be). An Excel VBA macro could do the work.

I've done that, twice I think; first time I was coming back to my desk, caught my knob on the corner of the desk, threw myself down onto the chair in agony and slid straight off the other side. Can't remember the second time, I think I might've hit my head...

edit -

Whilst that worked, it now counts the ' as a digit so now I have to rewrite my formulas . Good thing I haven't really got anything else to be doing!

Knob injuries are never good. I once landed on mine after grinding along a spine in a skatepark. It turned blue/black then green, I could barely walk for about a week afterwards
