Yup. He's an absolute legend

My summer of fun doesn't stop there either - off to Alton Towers on Saturday and work are sending me to Austin, Texas for a conference in the first week of August so going to have a few days of R&R while I'm there, week after that I'm going to V-Fest and then finally i52 to round it off!

Probably going to be the best summer I've ever had - going to take some doing to top this one!

So yeah, as I briefly mentioned yesterday, I spent the week up in Yorkshire (self-proclaimed to be "God's own country") at York university. I stayed in the dorms and had a bit of a feel for what uni life is like. And I loved it! I spoke to people as nerdy as me, and felt normal ;3

The journey there and back was a bit too long though, and I learned to not use the Northern line on a Friday evening with a huge rucksack...

By the way, nice to know Banrab's going native

I live and work in Yorkshire its terrible and on average I hate the locals. But i'm out on the coast miles from civilisation. York is ok I would advise never ever visiting anywhere but York or Leeds. Unless you like the outdoors and something, and people who literally define "I'm not racist but...", "I'm not rude, i'm plain spoken" etc etc. UGH.

Unlike Deadly, my summer of fun is going to be a summer of work.

I've decided to jack in the 9-5 grind. Work is a grind and working is social care these days is one of the most depressing, demotivating and enraging things ever and I've had enough of dodging the crap that seems to be coming down on us from all directions. Removing 5 days of my annual leave and cutting the salaries of my Team Leaders by £6000 were the last straws (they slashed the pay of the other staff by a similar amount last year). Funding is being cut too; last week I went to a workshop on room hire. Basically we're expected to help fund our Mental Health Day Services for vulnerable people now, by hiring out rooms to yoga classes or whatever. Service users have relapsed and actually commited suicide over the stress of losing services; we had a near miss just a couple of weeks ago. When you hear the next politican saying how frontline services are not being affected by cuts and are being protected;  they're lying or else they know sod all.

So yeah, I'm getting out. I'm going to try freelancing and see if I can make a go of it, but I've got to build up my CV/portfolio first so I'll be doing that at the same time as working full-time and doing a copy-editing/proof reading course. The target is to leave next year after I've done all I can to secure the futures of our Day Centre and the staff and Members.

Therefore I won't be around as much whilst all this is going on and may have to miss stuff because I've got work (I don't know yet). But I'll still be about to put on alltalk etc on the server so just give me a nudge on Steam if I can't make it on and there is no other Clanner playing.

As long as the politicians don't get a pay cut it's all good. Fuck the emergency services or care services. After all they just help people in need
