Got offered another promotion at work, for front of house manager, starting next month. Pretty chuffed considering I only got promoted to team leader a couple months ago, and people who've been promoted from there normally happens after a year or so.

Probs not gonna take it though. It's like double the hours, all my holiday booked would be cancelled since managers have their own holiday rota, would mean I'd miss a) Matt Fest b) My brothers wedding, which is like a mega deal breaker for me Plus, it's a shit load more responsibility, not sure I'm ready be the guy who has to let random dicks shout at him because his cutlery wasn't brought fast enough yet :3

Unless you get paid a stupid amount of money more, or it's what you want to do, or you hate your present job I'd say leave it.

Surely you could negotiate your holidays as part of taking the new job as you already have them booked.

afaik, new jobs (promotion or otherwise) have to observe any holidays the candidate has taken in advance of their hire date.

When I moved jobs, even though I wasn't entitled to Holidays, they still had to respect my family holiday as well as the holiday I had taken for my driving test. :p

I thought they had to honour pre-booked holidays too.  If they want you that much they should be flexible or maybe you could have a word with some of the managers on it already. See if you can arrange something.

Anyhow, often the extra pain and stress of moving up the management chain isn't worth it.

Yea, it's pretty much fuck all extra. But would look good on a CV. Although tbh, I'm thinking bout going back to uni potentially in September, so was considering skipping it based on that. But evil genius that my dad is brought up "Well, do you get trained?" "Well yea" "Then take the training and leave" "Seems pretty shitty to make them spend a month training me just to leave at the end" "So what? they're a multi-million company. I'd consider it. Especially if you're going to ship off to uni in sept. Take it, take the extra cash, then fuuuuuuuuuuuck right off. You owe the company no loyalty. The only person you might owe loyalty to is your boss and your colleagues.

The main risk with taking shitty jobs like that is you get locked into them, can't find the momentum to leave etc. If you already have an end point in mind then it's an ideal time to save up some extra cash, dump it in an index tracker/isa and chew the profit when you graduate.

Make sure it's not a qualification you have to pay back for if you leave before a certain period

Went to the a presentation at the kid's school, they want to give every pupil an iPad.  I was thinking they were laying on the presentation a bit thick (reminded me a bit of a hard sell sales script) and then they told us it would "only" cost us £16 per month.  Per child.

£32 per month for around 8 years (4 kids remember) is a bit too much.  I thought we paid taxes for this sort of thing anyway.

Very, very cool what they can do with it but we are going to plead poverty and moan about "social exclusion" (the latest political buzzword to hit public services.  ie. we're poor and we want to do rich people stuff).

Plus 6 - 11 year olds with iPads (yes they do get to take them home).  What could go wrong.
