Well I'll stick them in the oven then! Don't want to be scrapping molten Bagpuss from the grill pan

I would smite you a thousand times more if i could mode (to reinforce learning!). The vibrating water molecules thing is just nonsense I myself was tricked by, yeeears ago. It really just works thusly: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dielectric_heatingEnergy transference from EM waves is all.

Many molecules (such as those of water) are electric dipoles, meaning that they have a partial positive charge at one end and a partial negative charge at the other, and therefore rotate as they try to align themselves with the alternating electric field of the microwaves. Rotating molecules hit other molecules and put them into motion, thus dispersing energy Sounds like it vibrates water molecules to me.

But that's what mode said, microwaves heating up water molecules, it sounds fine to me, unless I am missing something?

Rotating molecules hit other molecules and put them into motion, thus dispersing energy Sounds like it vibrates water molecules to me. Microwave heating is sometimes explained as a resonance of water molecules, but this is incorrect: such resonance only occurs in water vapor at much higher frequencies, at about 20 GHz. Its molecules such as water, fats, and sugars that align themselves to the magnetic field and knock other stuff out of the way transferring kinetic energy. Nothing is vibrating. The rotation of the carousel though is changing the alignment so stuff keeps on moving. Vibration would be back and forth across an equilibrium point; its more like a demolition derby in there.

So it's not vibrating, it's moving chaotically. I will put that down in my small notebook. Thanks!

Doesn't it say that the field is alternating? Meaning they'd rotate in one direction, then the other?

I would have thought the more important point was "Don't put Bagpuss under a grill", but whatever keeps you happy disco.

My weekend has basically just consisted of packing all my stuff and putting it into storage. Last trip today to take my desk & PC so I have minimal amount of stuff with me so last me until I move into the new place.
As such - I won't be around much for the next couple of weeks. Will still have forums access at work though.

I'm shoving my stuff into moving boxes as well right now. Tomorrow I'll get the keys for the new flat, Friday I'll have to be done vacating the old one. I'm trying to get Internet there ASAP, but starting tomorrow I'll probably only be around on the forums (also from work) until further notice.
