Ever have one of those mornings where you wake up and get out of bed, but your brain gets left behind on the pillow? Like having a head full of treacle? I had one of those mornings. Spent a minuet staring blankly into the cutlery draw before a thought eventually turned up and reminded me that I wanted a tea spoon. Didn't get much better. later on I realized I was lent against the kitchen unit and that the mug of tea I had been stirring had gone cold. i did wake up enough to get out into the world. And it wasn't long before the grockles woke me up with their crazy driving ways

Following on from my tax refund last week I get a letter today from Folkestone council with reference to my council tax from 2004.  Apparently I have overpaid by £500 and am due a refund.

I have bought lottery tickets.

Premptive grumpiness, agreed to give my sister a lift back from her night out so I know I'm going to get woken up by a phone call sometime between 3am and 5am.

Been scouring the listings for potential places to rent. Saw one for £270pcm inc all bills that's 20 mins away in Frome, which incredibly has VM Cable so I'd have a decent net connection, but the room sounds pretty small so I don't know If i'd be able to fit a decent computer desk in properly. The other good prospect is a "guardianship" deal, which is like house sitting, so really good value but the place is on the market so I might have to move out on short notice if it sells.
It's only £220 per month, which includes everything except a phone line/broadband (it's in an LLU area but a few miles from the exchange) and from the sounds of it if i get in quick I'd have pick of the rooms, which are all pretty decent and one of which is an entire annex with its own kitchen and bathroom.  Downsides are a far more rural location, worse net connection and it's about 5-10 mins further away.

Will hopefully find time to look round them both next week but it's going to be a tricky decision. There was a one bedroom flat for rent about 2 mins walk from where i'm going to be working, was £350 pcm though and I guess council tax and bills would add another £150 to that, which I don't think I'd be able to afford despite what i'd be saving on fuel.

Count yourself lucky - a 1 bedroom studio flat around here is at least £500-600 pcm and I'm paying £400 for a room (albeit with all bills included).

Just finished the first Quake, fucking hell that games good. Haven't been that challeneged by a single player game in I don't know how long.

Had my first day at work, seems pretty good so far. Things are pretty hectic but the people seem competent and the day flew by.
Getting up at 6:30AM and not getting home until 6 PM isn't fun though.

Our trade kitchen designer got offered a job at our main competitors, Howdens today.  He immediately gave in his notice and announced he won't be in on Monday.  As our branch manager is on holiday it was up to the trade manager to break the news to the new area manager.  He wasn't happy but there was nothing he could do, couldn't even dock the guy's pay.

I shall be asking about the chances of taking his job on tomorrow.  I've always fancied kitchen designing.

He also told a story about his 80 year old father in law getting a KFC takeaway for the first time in his life and telling him that he didn't think much of the lemon tea bags KFC supplied.  Turns out he had been making tea with the wipes.

If anyone fancies a job in the Kent area there are several trade vacancies going in Ashford, Gillingham and Canterbury with Magnet.  There aren't advertised yet but a speculative application on the Magnet website may yield results, especially at Ashford where they are down to 2 staff.

Finished my first week of work, feels surprisingly good to be doing something again and getting to talk tech with people all day. Tiring as hell though with all the driving and I'm falling waaay behind on my TV downloads.
Sorted out rental this week too, took the £220 a month place 25mins from work, price was just too good to pass up on. Didn't get the annex, but I did manage to bag an En-suite and the room is a good size. Now I have to sort out a Bed, Mattress and Decent Computer desk, checked IKEA's website but it's quite a lot more than I can afford, would be near £500 for reasonable stuff inc delivery. Any suggestions for the budget minded?
