you are entitled to 28 days hoilday minimum in the uk which (usually) includes bank holidays however they can indeed make you work bank holidays but you are still entitled to that time off (which is usually given in your holiday leave). This assumes you work a 5 day week.

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle. Then I realised that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me.

I thought you were entitled to what was in the contract, bank holiday or not.
The only reason we got the wedding off, was that our MD forgot how our contracts were written. Apparently if your contract said 'x holidays and bank hols' you got it off, however our contract specifies which bank hols we get off, which means by all rights we shouldn't have had it off

Isn't employment law fun Well today has been a giggle. I started off with one job. Now the complication came in early. The company is using a parts distribution service that has lockers all over the UK. So i should have gone to the locker. Got the part out. Tried to stuff in all the parts from yesterday and then go to the job. But i got an email off one of the call planners letting me know that the delivery had failed as the locker was full. So the part is at the distribution center in Bristol. That's a joke. It's actually in Weston-Super-Mare. So down the road to Weston, where I find the center closed. Because they don't open Sundays or Bank Holidays. In a word, drat. So instead I use the opportunity to drop off a toll box with one of the local engineers. So pop round his house. Mug of tea, some biscuits and a natter. With no other work due to the complete lack of parts I head home. The Sony network is down, so can't play DC Universe. Never mind. Other MMOs are available. Only 2 more days to go till some time off. YAY!

From what I've heard the Sony network isn't just down it's left and run off with all your credit card details.

This is the Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) section. It's been running ok up till Monday. Then Sony went "OOPS! This has been compromised as well. We had better turn it off and figure out how many of our PC using customers have been compromised." So they have a press release http://www.soe.com/securityupdate/index_uk.vm So I don't get to be a hero for a while. Hay ho. Hooray it's Tuesday. And I've just remembered several things. Today once I've finished work, I have to drive to a hotel in Nottingham, as tomorrow I will be trained on how to service and repair equipment for a chain of fast food restaurants specializing in fried chicken. Joy. So this means that there will be no screaming in terror for me tonight as a result of Left 4 Dead 2. That will have to wait till either Wednesday or Thursday. At least it looks like another sunny day.

Car ('04 206) failed its MOT apparently needs new front brakes and front links to pass, and there are a few little things. Gonna be about £300 worth of work :/ What a fucking rip off, If my dad was here we'd have done the work ourselves for about £60 in parts and an hours tinkering. At least I feel a bit less of a bastard about my IT Services rates now that I've seen what Mechanics get away with. Insurance coming up shortly too, that'll be another £300-£400. /wave most of my savings. I've probably done less than a thousand miles in the last 12 months too.

I feel your pain Zarf mate, just about to be debt free and have road tax, insurance AND MOT next month. In other news my cat has decided sitting infront of my computers intake fans is the best place in the world. I can actually see the cat hair spinning around my case .

Thanks Captain Obvious.
I have a ghetto filter (tights+pipecleaner) but the hair's still getting through somehow. If I gave enough of a shit I'd investigate, instead I'm going to listen to Neil Young.
