I suggested the next class up because if you can afford the insurance on a 1.6 Focus (or even a Mondeo) you will be able to buy it far cheaper than a 1.2 Clio the same age purely because the tax is £60 cheaper a year.  I don't think the fuel economy will be that much different.

Not in Sheffield anymore - am situated near Gatwick now for my job. Been looking for focuses on gumtree and autotrader. Am going to wait until next week at least as that's when I get paid - and might hold off slightly longer as well until I get paid for all these website jobs I'm doing.

1.8 diesel should get you a fairly good MPG, not that I've actually checked so don't trust me 100% on that.

Agreed with Focus, or maybe polo..... in personal experience and that of mates French cars are feckers to fix, and fall apart (if you've had one that didn't, you were lucky). 

IMO the insurance on a corsa is too high as its a known boy racer.

I had an old oil burning focus it did 65mpg+ on my commute (25mile motorway + 13mile across a city centre) until it blew up.

edit: im also running a little 1.2 sxi corsa at the mo' for commuting. insurance is £320 a year fully comp for me and missus.

It has a very short MOT and sounds like a trader.  One the face of it it sounds like an excellent buy but I suspect there may be something wrong with it.  Definitely worth a look though

Got my free GiffGaff sim through the post today, Phoned up Three and was able to get out of my contract 6months early with no penalty (I don't get a signal with Three at my parents postcode). Didn't even have to send the original contract phone back because i said I'd lost it. I was expecting a nightmare becasue Three have a pretty shitty rep but the whole call was painless - Indian call center but the line/mic was clear and there was no problem communicating. Got my PAC code too so i can move my number over.

Loving GiffGaff btw, Piggybacking the O2 network so good coverage, and the prices are awesome with no contracts. I get 250mins,Unlimited Texts and Unlimited Data "goodybag" (like a bolt-on) for £10.

If anyone is thinking about switching I can have a free SIM set to you and we both get £5 credit when you activate it.

Yeah, If PAYG data wasn't so unreasonably expensive, I'd be on that since i use about 20minutes and texts a month (though that may rise now that i actually have signal) GiffGaff are pretty cheap PAYG at 8p calls, 4p texts. I'm actually quite hopeful that when they stop including unlimited data on PAYG they'll break new ground in cheap metered data. Somewhere around or under 5p/MB would probably be "fair".
