Tonight I went to an after work beer/curry with the company, that I was expecting to be everyone. Turns out only the elders went so I spent my evening with a bunch of men, who were on average about 15 years older than me having nothing in common.
It was great...

Weather crap.
Had to wear mac to work. I have a beige mac and do you know what, it makes me REALLY ANNOYED. Just look around you, look at everyone wearing macs. What colour are they? BEIGE!
99.9% of macs are beige. I wanted a grey mac, maybe a green one. Could I get one. NO. What colour did I have to get. BEIGE. Did all those people you see around you wearing beige macs want beige macs? No. They had no choice. You can have any colour as long as it's beige. BEIGE
This is fashion fascism.

Why'd you buy it if you hate it so much.

That's just it. I had NO CHOICE.
It was that or no coat. Seriously. My old coat had worn out and you know the sort of summer we're having.
I just hate the assumption that we all want exactly the same thing and that thing is dictated to us.

Pretty sure Uniqlo had macs in every colour you could imagine at the beginning of the season. Pretty slim picking left but you might find something you like online (or instore? you live in london if I recall)

Just finished doing the third of three on-line assessments; a psychological profile, verbal reasoning and numerical reasoning. It's all really boring. We're in the middle of a huge restructure and review of pay and conditions (the senior workers have had their salary slashed by £6000). We've all lost holiday and have poorer sick leave and redundancy conditions. We also have to apply for our own jobs. My assessment is next Thursday, I need to be there at 8.30am for a interview in front of a panel of four of our top bods followed by a group exercise. I sense it's really a case of deciding who is 'right' for the company and it's ambitions and who isn't. There has been a lot of talk amongst senior management of the importance of having 'the right people on the bus'. It all remains to be seen if I'll be walking home at the end of it
