Well, well
Just been informed that I passed my interview to be a Games Maker at the 2012 Olympics.
My role: Event Services Team Leader.
Team Leader, no idea how that happened. Actually that's not true. I remember the Interview asking me if I'd accept the position of 'Team Leader' if offered and I remember saying 'Yes' (though inside I was saying, just shut up Vic, no; but I was on a roll and you know how it is when the crap just keeps flowing)
So anyway I'm now going to have to prepare myself to welcome 11 million people. Even with 10 000 Games Makers, that's a lot of people to welcome each; as my mother pointed out, laughing. She keeps laughing, I reckon she's not taking it seriously. I suspect she might have Poor Attitude. I may have to report her to someone. Maybe I'll e-mail Sebastian (that is Sebastian Coe, now I'm a Games Maker I feel we're on first name terms now).
Anyway, as a Team Leader, I'm now going to have to have at least a working knowledge of all the roles; scanning tickets, showing people to their seats and giving directions. But since I've already sworn to go beyond my personal best in this, I shall rise to the challenge.
The next steps:
Orientation training
Role-specific training
Event Leadership training
Venue training
Accreditation and uniform collection.
It's all exciting and rather daunting, not least that I'll be having to be perky and lead a team full of people, no doubt already pre-selected for their own perkiness. What if they out-perk me?
