Fuck Citrix, that is all.

Whats wrong? Used to admin Citrix and I actually quite like it. Deskop virtualisation ftw.

We have to run everything via a Citrix desktop that crashes/looses connection to the server at least 3 or 4 times a day, is slow, is constantly going out of sync and loosing data and is just generally a PITA. Add to that all the Citrix programmes are at a tiny resolution compared to my default desktop resi and that if you close IE (where the Citrix desktop is run from) you loose ALL your open Citrix applications and the shit starts to get tedious.

My day is pretty nice:
I have been to the register office (again) to arrange everything so we can get married. We have been there last week to hear, that it won't work if we can't get the documents that proof that Paul really is that person sitting there (his names has been changed when he came to germany). So today I had all the documents and everything was fine, so we will get married the 06.05.2011, 12 o'clock.

Congrats (again).  If you are looking to split the cost of the wedding I hear there is another couple getting married soon, they may go halves on a double wedding.  I think the family may insist on the UK as the venue though

So todays been long and tiring, left the house and headed down to Bristol at 8am. I thought we were only going down for Matts graduation, but turns out we were starting the day with our first meeting with the Crown Prosecution Services to discuss the upcoming court case against Matts killer. Pretty much it was just letting us know what's happening, the name of the guy, what he's being charged with and vague dates.

There's a plea hearing on Dec 3rd, where he'll make his pleas to all the charges against him, they suspect he'll plead not guilty to quite a few charges (he's also being charged for speeding and road rage that he was pulled over for, 3 days before he hit Matt). But overall, they have a fairly strong case against him, not bulletproof, but they're confident he'll serve a prison sentance in some form. Depending on what happens with the pleas, could take another month or 3 to get to the main court case. Fun -.- also, we found out Matts believed cause of death (which we havent known since he died, we don't even have an official death certificate yet since they still don't know for sure). Obviously aside from the massive trauma, they believe the subsequent cardiac arrest was caused by propofol infusion syndrome, an extremely rare syndrome. had only been seen in the hospital once ever before. Tis also what allegedly killed Michael Jackson.

Anyway, that was a hoot. But then the main reason we were there came around, and we went to the graduation. My parents went up and accepted his Master of Science in Music Technology on his behalf. Needless to say, gutted he's not there to accept it himself, but still proud as fuck.

After that the local newspaper (who are following the court proceedings) took some photos and we had a brief interview with them. Should be printed in tomorrows paper

Finished off by going to the Wagamamas where Matt used to work and had "Matts Table", the spot where he'd always sit when ever he was eating or doing paperwork etc, reserved just for us.

And now home. I miss Matt =/

Hmm, sounds like a combination of shitty hardware and config. When I was doing it all your browser was used for was authentication, it then launched an installed app on your PC which brought your Citrix desktop up in fullscreen at your native res. Citrix sessions were also persistent, if your PC crashed when you next logged on you'd join your old session exactly where you left it. I had the same session going for weeks, could disconnect at work and reconnect from another computer at home over the internet (or even on my phone).

Yeah, you have to know what you're doing, cramming 200 users onto a crappy server is a recipe for disaster. You also need to have your storage back-end sorted out, preferably with plenty of RAM and SSD caching in the mix - trying to load a few hundred user profiles from mechanical drives when everyone tries to log on at the start of the work day or after lunch will slow everything to a crawl for tens of minutes.

You need to spec your hardware around providing reasonable service during the peaks, and accept that you won't be getting perfect efficiency of utilisation for most of the day.

Productivity achieved, and it only took me 3 days to do it. Had to pay some vat/shipping bill for the stuff I bought from valve store - what made this interesting is the fact I used the term "villianous scum" in the bank. Also had to explain that I was not a member off staff of apature science and this was actually a very funny joke. It didn't translate.
