http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freelancer_(video_game)Did anyone ever play this? Probably the best spaceship fighter game ever made apart from Starlancer! I remember playing this with my brother like 5 times through and the mod community is still pretty big.

One of the games I wish I'd never sold, absolutely brilliant, I have very fond memories of it.
Edit: 7 years old! didn't realize it was that long ago.

Yes, yes. One of the very few (if not the only) space flight games I enjoyed. Mouse aiming ftw!

Yeah I liked it, I think I remember it getting boring relatively fast though... I'd really like to see this and Freespace making a baby

Fixed the url out of boredom.
Never played Freelancer but played the crap out of X2 (similar but shinier) for like 6 months.

Thanks chug, sorry disco.
Yeah it rocked. It was like streamlined Oblivion in a spaceship. Been trying to get it to work with Win7 but I can't get rid of IPv6 as it's turning all the IP's into hex's so I can't join my own server.
Singleplayer was still fun though.

I have it and did have it running on Win7, even on my own server. Never had any issues.

Got the boxes for this and Starlancer back at home. Great game, but I never bothered replaying it, wasn't that much depth after the main story arc was over.

Do you need IPv6 for anything? You can disable it by opening up network connections, opening properties for your network card and unchecking the IPv6 protocol.

Freelancer was a bloody good giggle. After the dispointment I suffered from playing the sequal to elite, this game was everything I wanted Elite 2 to be. The story is quite good and does move you through the game quite well. I did suffer a bit of a hissy fit when it came to the race. I tipically could never beat him. And every time you would have to sit through the sodding cut movie untill you could have another try. Eventually I did kick his smug "I only talk to racers" arse and I was alowed to get on with the game. Even after the story had finished, there was still a lot to be done. Places to explore. Hidden wrecks to find. And the semi fiendish reputation system to negosiate. If you want the Titan, then you need to be all pally with the Corsairs. And if you grow tired of that, well there are always mods. Want to buy and pilet a battle ship? How about fly a ship from Star Wars? Or maybe Babalyon 5? Well you can. A groupe called "Starfyre Studios" came out with Freelancer The Next Generation. http://www.starfyrestudios.com/modules/news/Damm, I'm going to have to dig out the disk now
