I knew cats could survive falls from quite some height, but I clearly underestimated our feline companions. For ExampleAnd as far as I have read that's not even record breaking.

Interesting tidbit: Cats falling from a height less than 6 stories have a higher risk of injury than more! (Once cats have turned into position and reached terminal velocity they relax, which decreases the risk of greater injuries, so a fall from greater heights gives them the time to reach that point)
I've tested it and threw my cat out of the window. Results were inconclusive since I live in the basement.

Apparently there's some magic height that cats will die if they fall out of a window. I think it's something like between 1-6 stories they don't have enough speed to injure themselves, and above 7 stories they have enough time to position themselves so they land properly without hurting themselves. The 7th story is just high enough for them to hurt themselves if they fall - but not enough time for them to right themselves.
It was based on people living in apartment blocks and their cats falling out of the windows.

Actually a cat with right itself within a few feet (under normal circumstances). Apparently the relaxation I've mentioned appears to be an important factor. As long as the cat is accelerating it is still tense and impact will more likely break bones, etc. One thing I just ask myself: If a cat can survive a fall from a great height on which it has reached terminal velocity what makes a fall from even greater height any different? In other words: If a cat can survive a fall from 100 meters why should it not survive a fall from 200 or 300 meters. Impact speed would be the same.

no reason physically...if the cat is in the same state at 100m as 200-300m then it'll survive. I guess that the cat stops relaxing (it's brain overcomes the natural instinct to relax to save itself) and that's when it hurts itself when it falls.

/looks at his cat Brains? Cats have brains? I've always thought cats only had a couple of nerve clusters, featuring a feedme-center, a cuddleme-center, a purr-o-matic and a goawayImnotinthemoodforyou knot.

Many also possess a centre to aid with the hunting and eating of furry things smaller than themselves.

My cat cannot be killed regardless of fall height.
[physics]Also, since the cat spinning thing is only managed by using their legs to defer the effect of their angular momentum, there would only be a certain window in which they could fall 'correctly' before having to perform a whole turn again to avoid backsplat.[/physics]
