There are definitely performance benefits to RAID0, and RAID10 is the ideal balance of performance and resiliency - but at the cost of 4 drives you may as well just get an SSD instead if it's performance you care about.
Which of course presents you again with the problem of resiliency, even at a greater scale since SSD so far are not as reliable as HDD (which will certainly change in the next few years).
I think the best solution is probably a good mix of SDD, RAID and regular HD, combined with good backup strategy for important stuff.
