I'm reading Blackjack 33 which is about the "secret" war in Laos during the American's time in Vietnam. One of my favourite books on the war and I'd completely forgotten how depressing the opening chapters are, nothing but detailed descriptions of horrendous deaths and their escape from the NVA

Where do you actually find the time/willpower/enjoyment to read those kind of books? Especially those of you at uni

I make time.
Did a rough tally and I read in the region of 20000 pages of fiction a year.

Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy: And Another Thing.

The sixth book in the series, this time written by Eoin Colfer, who does a pretty good job of mimicing Douglas Adams' style. Of course it's not as good as the others, but still a really entertaining read.
Warning: I, a massive, MASSIVE Hitch-Hiker's nut, was hugely disappointed by the ending. You will be too.

Haven't really read a book in a while tbh. Usually read zombie or WWII related books (fact or fiction). Next book I plan on Reading is "The Commissar" by Sven Hassel, he's a fav author of me and Matt, usually Matt would read one of his book, then he'd pass it on to me. He was half way through this book when he was killed, I plan on finishing it Smiley

Shocked one of his best if I recall (got made into a not so great film), though I remember loving monte cassino for Porta having an eating competition with an American in no mans land (who died). Best was his first "Legion of the Damned".  If you've read his others, I'd be amazed if you haven't read that

Think I've read everyone of his books apart from "The Bloody Road to Death", "O.G.P.U. Prison" and "The Commissar" Cheesy

Don't read as much as I've used to these days Sad
Basically I read all the time, but I invest much less time into it than in the past. Majorly poor time management combined with too many interests ...

Right now I've started reading the latest Stephen King "Under the dome". Before that I finished an older Straub "lostboylostgirl".

After the King, we will see. I have probably a hundred books sitting on my shelf still waiting to be read.

If you like war books and zombie books I'd have to recommend World War Z by Max Brooks. It's a fantastic book and a great read. It's not written in the traditional sense with having a narrative following certain characters all the way through but is a collection of interviews with survivors from 'World War Z'. Anyway, can't recommend it enough if you're into zombie books. Cheesy

On another note at the moment I'm reading a series by Steven Erikson - the Malazan Book of the Fallen to be precise. I'm about the
5th book in and it's often kept me up reading into the small hours. It's great fantasy anyway!

I've also been reading some sci-fi books by Peter F. Hamilton the Void trilogy and am eagerly waiting for the final book to be written. It's been some of the best sci-fi I've read I think - along with the Dan Simmons books that I recommended (and leant to) Dibble. Tongue

Currently re-reading George R R Martins 'Song of Ice and Fire' series in preparation for the next book in a few months. Highly recommended, its easily the best Fantasy series i've read (and i've read a lot)
n-n-n-necro

Nice recommendation, just finished the first book. It starts slow (i.e. 300-400 pages), but it's really nicely done. There's a lot more nuance to his characters than usual for this genre, he seems to be avoiding the A-is-good and B-is-evil, and after nearly 800 pages I've still no idea which way some of the characters are going to go. And nobody has tugged their braids or any other Robert Jordan'isms yet.

On the bad side, I'm unconvinced he'll actually finish it which will be frustrating, and it also wouldn't surprise me if by the third book everyone in the first is dead (don't confirm that), the guy likes his twists.

After 5 books I still have no idea where some of the characters are going.  The Imp FTW.

Edit  Bet the author will give up in the sixth book and it will end up..... "Stark woke up and it had all been a terrible dream"
