NNNNECRO!
Anyway, just finished re-reading The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson. Truly epic stuff, can highly recommend it if you're into fantasy. He's planned it to be a Wheel of Time style 10 book series, and hopefully he's young enough to make it there.

I discovered a new SF writer the other day. Bought an interesting looking book from a boot fair, read it and dug up the first two ommibus books in the series from Amazon.
The author is Louis McMaster Bujold and the books are The Miles Vorsigan Saga and there are tons of them.
Probably best to read them in book time order and not published order.

Close on a year since this thread was last updated there! The first post referenced Iain Banks. Fitting maybe. Perhaps this thread can sort of be his RIP. Never read the Great Gatsby, odd...instead I read the Beautiful and the Damned and some of his short stories. I went through a period of 20s literature. Currently I'm reading http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7775783-the-end-of-the-line. Great for reading on the commute

Oh ahoy there fellow book-readers
I recently finished reading A Dance With Dragons from GRRMartin, am in the middle of Dostoevsky's Brothers Karamazov and I'm getting ready to start Times of Contempt from A. Sapkowski. I like to mix classic with more contemporary stuff to avoid getting bored with a genre or theme. If any of you are into fantasy where it is difficult to tell the good guys from the bad guys I would recommend those two series (A Song of Ice and Fire & The Witcher Saga).
Oh and Gatsby was pretty awesome, specially if you are familiar with the 20s American setting Berath, give it a try! It is a rather short book so you'll be done with it rather quickly but definitely worth it.

I think you would like The People's Act of Love by James Meek, TNG. It's a thriller set in revolutionary Russia. What surprised me was that it was written in a Russian realism style, but with modern touches.

Thanks Torgue, I'll have to add it to my backlog; I've been hearing good stuff about it and Karamavoz is the last of Dostoevsky's works that I had to fill my yearly quota of Russian bleakness. Oh and for anyone looking for a grim Russian post-apocalyptic future look no further than the Metro 2033 & 2034 novels.
