Is it as cheerful and upbeat as the last one?

I'd say it's a little more depressing.

Book about a guy who replies to the scammers and winds them up. Found this extract which cracked me up : http://www.scribd.com/doc/33449121/Delete-This-at-Your-PerilJust started the The Codex Alera series as I was after some quick light reading but not sure if I like it. Recently finished Cormac McCarthy's The Road which I liked so also picking my way through The Border Trilogy.

House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski
this i would like to read, afaik it's completely unlike anything else both in style and content. right now i'm actually trying to get to the end of a book, having gotten most of the way through three recently before loosing interest or misplacing them and starting again. So i decided to start on the latest charlie brooker book, it's still as funny as before.

I'm currently reading Machine of Death. I know I can read it online, but I wanted a dead tree edition. It's brilliant. Some very interesting perspectives on the premise. The only thing I would have preferred would have been if they'd written sort of a "specification" of the machine for the authors, so descriptions and such like could match up between the stories.

I am currently reading Altered Carbon by Richard K. Morgan , which is a nice sci-fi story with an interesting premise (cloning/identity storage are the main themes).

I'm currently reading The Fuller Memorandum by Charles Stross.
Also on the go, for when I'm feeling clever, I'm reading The Stuff of Thought by Steven Pinker. It's really really really interesting, but not a light read. I'll be finishing the Charles Stross first!

I've recently got into Ben Aaronovitch, he's only written 2 books with a third coming very soon. Basically his books are set in modern day London, narrated by a young policeman who gets caught up in supernatural events. Very well written and quite funny in parts where he tries to get police procedure to fit in with the supernatural.
