Sci-Fi + Fantasy 4 life. Had enough of Dickens/Shakespeare/Poetry for GCSE English. On a related note I wish Amazon et al would keep their shitty Vampire/Werewolf romance books out of the SF&F category, where they are clog up 90% of the best-sellers lists.

I really enjoyed Brandon Sanderson's new book, "The Way of Kings". It's the first of a series that is already planned as at least 10books. Other than that I'm just waiting for continuations of various series.

Can't remember if I mentioned them before, but Patrick Rothfuss's "The name of the Wind" is great, I'm eagerly awaiting the second book. Scott Lynch's "Gentlemen Bastards" series is a really fun read too, only two books of a planned seven are out currently.
Apart from that I'm waiting for the next 'Safehold' book by David Weber, and of course book 5 of 'A Game of Thrones', I've been waiting 11 fucking years now for that cockteasing bastard GRRM to show us what happens to the characters/plot threads from 'A Storm of Swords'.

I'm shortly going to be re-reading the First and Second Chronicles of Thomas Covenant (by Stephen R Donaldson), so I can start on the Last Chronicles.

I finished Surface Detail by Iain M Banks which I got for Christmas. Was a great read, although a more typical style compared to some of his books, and not one you should read unless you've read one of his others I think.

I'd recommend the Foundation series books 1-3 Dibble but I've not read Enders Game, so if you do, post what you think of it.

Been reading The Odyssey at work, translated by Andrew Lang, but it's a bit ponderous. Other than that I've been reading some of Sophocles' Oedipus plays and Love by Stendhal.

Not been reading a huge amount lately, but a couple of highlights since the thread died:

- Stephen King's Under the Dome is insanely long but (mostly) worth every page. He's got a real knack for writing excellent characters, and their interactions after being imprisoned are what make the book really shine. It's the simpsons movie with about 400 times the darkness.

- Iain Banks' (note the lack of the scifi m) Transition is the most sci fi-y non sci-fi book he's ever done. It's a sort of dimension hopping conspiracy thriller with awkward amounts of sex. Think sliders meets the   matrix with boning. Would highly recommend it.

- Zarf mentioned it above, but Patrick Rothfuss' The Name of the Wind really is excellent. It hints at an epic tale, but despite covering relatively mundane grounds it still manages to be engrossing and enjoyable. My girlfriend is not usually a fantasy fan at all, but when I pointed out that harry potter was probably more fantasy focused than this she gave it a go and loved it.

Currently reading the Belisarius series by David Drake & Eric Flint. Not brilliantly written (Protagonist being an infallible military genius who also has the technological advantage gets pretty old) but I absolutely love Alternate History / Sci-Fi crossover, and it's an interesting period of history that doesn't get a great deal of exposure usually.

Finished the third Spice and Wolf book - it is an anime series/manga (although the manga is not very good compared to the anime). Fine light reads, full of colourful characters in a medieval-esk world where the merchant is king; where a merchant ends up with a sudden appearance of a companion girl who is also a harvest god - seriously fun reads.

Looking for more books actually so might take suggestions; but got a few from this list to take a look at.
