I'm looking to splash a bit of cash on getting a set of 5.1 speakers for my PC but have no idea where to begin. The most highly rated ones I've seen tend to be Logitech but I'm loath to give them any more money after the fiasco with my headset so I want some recommendations. I don't really want to spend more then £100 if I can help it and they will be mainly used for gaming and listening to music. Audio quality is pretty important but bang for buck moreso.

I have the Logitech X-540 speakers and they're very good. £67 at Amazon.

Building your own is the best option, you can pick up some nice older kit second hand.
Logitech Z5500 are meant to be pretty good for "PC speakers", but way out of your price range.

To be honest though you get a lot better audio quality for the money if you go for headphones. With an X-fi or Asus Xonar sound card you can simulate 7.1 surround surprisingly well for gaming.

Since music is only stereo (2 channels) why not look at getting a decent set of bookshelf or monitor speakers, or a nice 2.1 setup like the Acoustic energy Aego M's.

I'm currently using my stereo when I'm not using my headset and want to get away from it as the footprint on my desk is pretty epic, hence the need for some nice little speakers and seeing as most 5.1 "multimedia" sets are only about £50-£70 I think I'll just plump for one of those.
