Was thinking about the last time I actually started from a clean slate with my PC, it's been YEARS. Please post your histories and i'd be interested how far back your current pc can trace it's lineage. Cases/psu/hdd don't count.

I can trace mine all the way back to the Athlon xp era in 2003.
Can't remember exact details but I had a couple of motherboard replacements due to failures, upped the RAM from it's original 2x256MB to 4x256 to 2x1024, and went from a Geforce ti4200 to a Radeon 9700Pro (which died quickly) to 6800GT

Summer '06 went over to the Intel team - ASRock motherboard (handy thing could take both AGP and PCI-E, and DDR or DDR2) with an E6600, moved over the AGP Geforce 6800GT and some DDR from my old Athlon setup
Autumn '06 switched over to DDR2 at some point, got a PCI-E radeon x1900xtx.
Winter '06 changed case/motherboard to a Shuttle SD37P2
Spring '07 Radeon died so I got a 8800gts 320MB
Winter '07 changed HDD for RAID0 raptors
Summer '08 got a new 24" monitor which neccesitated an upgrade to 8800gtx 768MB, Got 4GB DDR2
Shuttle died a month later so I moved into a Sugo case and mATX mobo
Upgraded to Q6600 cpu
Spring '09 sold Raptors off before SSD's depreciated them, got a Samsung F1 320GB
Autumn '09 upgraded to SSD.


So there we go, I've had the same broom PC since 2003!

Erm, well I've no idear about when. But for a PC, my first one was from a company in Bedford called "Power Computing". I had an AMD K62 400mhz with 128 mb ram and a Voodoo 3DFX 32 mb graphics card. Windows 98, first edition. 17" CTR.

Years passed by and I upgraded to an A-Bit mother board for my AMD Athalon 1.2 ghz, eventually changing the graphics card for a GeForce 41200ti. Still on Windows 98 first edition. Still got the CTR monitor.

More time passed and it was now the turn of a Gigabyte mother board for my AMD Sympron 3100 (1.8ghz). A whopping 1gig of ram. The graphics card then turned into a GeForce 6600. Now running Windows Xp pro. Also eventually got a 17" TFT.

Now I'm on my current spec. XFX mother board, a Intel dual core running at 3ghz. Windows 7 - 64 bit. 8 gig of ram. And a GeForce 8000 something or other graphics card with 512 mb of it's own ram. The old faithfull TFT has now been turned into a 22" widescreen TFT.

As a rough guide line, this is about ten years.

Mine was a complete new build about 3 years ago.

I've always gone for rebuilds.... if one bit can be updated then chances are all of it can be.... so I do

I go for new builds. I have my current new PC (i5 PC, 2009), my old dual core (E6600 Core 2 Duo, circa 2006 - I had a release one, heh) upstairs as a dedicated server now, with my old P4 machine (2.8GHz IIRC, probably 2003-4 or something?) sitting dead next to me, unused. I really should put it to some kind of use, did well as a LAN server when I needed it to be I guess, but IDE HDD connections meant as a server it's not too useful...hmm.

No interesting upgrades either - mainly graphics cards when they've gone dead!
