Been having issues with my netgear router. Just wondered if anyone else has had the same.
Basically searching for servers in steam comes back with no servers responded.....
With a continuous ping on router it looks like the router drops off during the search, however running a continuous ping to google (through the router) works fine constantly....
When connecting PC directly to the cable bridge it works perfectly fine.
Ive tried turning off firewall on router, enabled port forwarding, even assigned PC to DMZ to allow all services through.
Trying to flash firmware on router just fails.......
Any ideas lol

Nope, I can remember I had a nightmare at my folks house with thier netgear router, the only solution was to move the lappy downstairs and connect directly to the router. I'd get random ping spikes and like you said, sometimes a server search would come back with nothing. Massive pain in the arse when you just fancied a quick blast!

I have a netgear, no problems specifically. The odd drop out or poor performance (which is corrected by a restart of the router).
Direct cable connect with firewall on.
Firmware update shouldn't fail tbh.
I'd be tempted to perform a full reset? There is an option to do this, then input your settings again. Maybe something set incorrectly.

I've got a netgear router from sky and somtomes get somthing similar, hold a biro or point thing of choice in the reset button at the back for about 15sec, normally sorts it for me.

Before you completly can it and buy a new one, you might want to try open source firmware.

Good thought.... Although it fails to update from any newer official revision, so don't think it'll come to much lol

eww supplied routers are usually nasty no matter their brand (i have a netgear i bought and it works quite well) have you gone to places like pingtest.net to see if your connection is fine?

Connection is fine, I can ping through the router fine to google for example, but the router itself stops responding only during a steam server list refresh..... As a work around, I have connected PC direct to bridge, found all 3000 odd TF2 servers, repopulated my favourites list, and tonight I will reconnect router.... as all my other appliances need the router lol

yeah it seems you are getting flooded and the router shits itself.
ok try reducing settings in your search perhaps? when you search do you just have all options open? try limiting it to >100 ms only perhaps? or reducing your download speed on the steam settings?
