So my Microsoft/Razer Habu is developing left-click problems. It kind of double clicks a lot of the time when I'm only single clicking and is beginning to just feel a bit loose and knackered.

It's a shame cos I really like the feel of this mouse (to hold) and its speed. I usually only used the 1600dpi setting for games, but had been known to go up to 2000 for some stuff. On-the-fly DPI switch is great, can't do without that in a new mouse. Two extra buttons under the thumb is also absolutely fine, I don't need any more than that.
What I can really do without is profile-switching or on-mouse memory, that just got annoying on the Habu, accidentally switching and stuff.

I've been offered a mouse as a Christmas present, my dad will order the one I choose. So ideally:

- cost < £50
- in stock this week
- similar shape to Habu
- at least 1600dpi, no more than 2000 is necessary
- on the fly switching
- extra buttons not really necessary, two under the thumb is fine

I've looked around a bit but I'm just getting confused by conflicting reviews, saying that certain mice break quickly/have bad firmware etc.
Possibles so far are Razer Salmosa, Diamondback, Copperhead or Lachesis...

Any help or feedback at all regarding any of the above would be much appreciated, I've only ever owned one gaming mouse!

Cheers.

I'm also in the market for a new mouse at the minute. I would advise against the copperhead personally, it is what i have now and i am having a similar problem to you with my left mouse button. It sometimes won't register a click if i click it twice in quick succession, which has gotten me killed a few times when playing as solider (and gotten over people killed when playing as medic). I initially thought one of the tf2 updates was responsible for this as it started happening soon after they introduced auto-reload, but I know someone else with a copperhead who is having the same problem with his right-mouse button.

I have a Lachesis and I really like it - it does have onboard memory and overkill on the dpi but I got used to it and really like it now.

As for the profile switching and stuff though - you can switch all that off in the settings and just use the extra buttons as buttons.

The only thing I don't like about it is that sometimes the side buttons can get a little stuck when they get dirty - but it's pretty easy to clean out the gunk and it's good to go again.

Also: there is another thread on this somewhere in here. You can probably find some more good recommendations in there.

Logitech MX518. It's not quite as fancy as some of those that have been listed here, but it ticks all the boxes besides the shape. It's a right-handed ergonomic type mouse, but i find they feel a lot better than the ambidextrous ones. Plus it's very reliable and has on-the-fly dpi switching.

The lachesis is nice, but I found the grip really wierd. It's a very flat mouse, not really an ergo sort of shape. Gave me wrist ache.

My mouse is a logitech G5, which is alright. not that expensive but a decent performer.

Thanks for all the advice, chaps. Most helpful to a rodent newbie like myself.

It's a good job you warned me off the Copperhead, Dodgy, I was strongly considering that one earlier.
*Edit* gah - Cheez! I've been ninja'd 4 times today by different people... how do I choose who to believe between our two skill maniacs, Dodgy and Cheez? Is the common factor in your success so far your Copperheads? Tongue

I decided in the end that the Lachesis was a little too overkill on the features, despite looking rather excellent. I think I'm going to go for a DeathAdder, unless anyone knows of a reason not to...? It's just that it's right-handed designed like my old one and doesn't bother with stuff like profiles and has the buttons in the right place where I like.
*Edit* also, as Rippy rightly points out, it glows in a blue and pretty way.

I'm not a fan of the Logitech mice personally (from looks perspective and trying one out) and my previous mouse was more Razer-y.

Yay for Christmas! You'll soon see whether it dramatically increases my playing-other-classes-than-spy skillz Tongue

most of the big name mice are all great.. its just a matter of preference.
Go to a shop and try a few in your hand.. pick the one you like most.

Nearly every mouse that has the word "gaming" attached to it can do it all.. on the fly dpi switching/macros ect.. so get one you like the look/feel/price of

Was just gonna say scroggage, I borrowed Chaos' lachesis for a while after i37 cos a can of relentless exploded in my bag, fucking up my diamondback. Fucking loved it comparitively. However when I bought my new PC from Jordan, I gave him back his lachesis in exchange for a DeathAdder. Even though it's suppose to be a step down from the lachesis, I prefer it. It still has the cool style of the lachesis, maybe slightly less of the "trimmings", but the shape of it fits my hand perfectly and I've never had a problem with it Smiley

Yay! Hooray for relentless's volatility! It brings about all sorts of interesting situations. ^.^

Sadly Chaos I have to buy blind from the intersphere as it's going to be a Christmas present. I think he's ordered it now, so I'll be forced to love it.

try taking it apart and cleaning the microswitch.

The switches are rated for millions of clicks so it's almost certainly a scum issue.
