Bit of a shame really, it's only underperforming when running DirectX stuff becasue it has to emulate the fixed function hardware. The real power of it is the programmability and flexibility - If a dev set out to write an engine optimised for larrabees native architechture he could end up with something really great.
Give it another few years - as ATi and nVidia start spending more of their transistor budget on enhancing programability, the gap to Larrabee will get smaller. Intel have at least a year's advantage in process tech too so they will eventually win. (better process tech = Cheaper, faster, cooler chips)

If nVidia has a really bad year (as it's currently shaping up) and loses enough market share I can see Intel buying them out, If only to enable a widespread transition to x86 GPU's in a few generations (ATi already have access to an x86 license via AMD)

I can see Intel buying out Intel, its like some business execs wet dream and the new business manuever of the millenium. I imagine something like a smaller holding or department buying out the parent company.

The real power of it is the programmability and flexibility

General trend is FPGA (or similar) > ASIC. so i totally agree, Intel will win with this in the end, specialised hardware is always doomed on a long enough timescale

I bet NVidia are pissing themselves laughing after the rapacious claims Intel made about Larbee's potential last year.

But still, Intel have a lot to look forward too.. i9 which is great but useless for most people that would be willing to pay for it (gamers)
12 threads ? why?
I'd rather have 4 threads that are 3 times as powerful

I suppose it's because they are reaching the maximum possible speeds that they can reach on a single core...

And you say that now Chaos - but that's because presumably software developers are so far behind the hardware in terms of getting the most out of the chips. I mean take a look at games...most games still use DX9 and yet we now have DX11 - but not that many games use DX10. Another case in point is 64 bit...not many applications are 64 bit. (a very simple case in point: 57 folders in x86 program files, 25 in in 64 bit and most of those are microsoft bundled apps)

When software developers catch up with more parallel programming and multi-threaded applications then you'll see the benefit of more cores over core clock speed - it's just not there yet.

LOL  That conjures up images of snotty nosed developers sat behind the project manager  and every  few minutes, one of them says "Are we there yet?"
And eventually the PM turns round and twats one of them Cheesy
