I'd do ALMOST anything to have crits turned off on our server

Before this dissolves into a no-crits debate: I've also noticed the backstab thing. It seems to have regressed to the old days, where if you stabbed from a little way away it would do the standard slash animation but still count as a backstab. I'm fairly sure I've had a couple of normal stabs since then too. It does just seem to be WDG at the moment; a quick troll of the steam forums doesn't seem to have anyone mentioning it.

It may be they havent noticed..... I play spy a fair amount, on wdg and regular pub servers and I honestly have no idea what the hell any of you are on about

I've got absolutely NO backstab animations since this started, though I don't play much spy these days.

We have a spy related mod active to stop server exploit and crashes (called FistPie.smx). It prevents disguises as a heavy and the use of melee / dead ringer to bring the server down.

It may be having the side effect on animation?

I think lots of servers use that mod (or one similar) J, if there was a problem with it I think the Steam forums would have exploded by now.

The Steam Forums exploding shouldn't surprise anyone. They are constantly exploding, CONSTANTLY, and thus I never visit them

You can easily test this by doing a quick self-server run and see if the sound comes up or not, but is anyone THAT bothered about it and want to put in the effort then file a proper bug report?

I haven't played tf2 lately, but yeah, I noticed it too and I find it very annoying. While it doesn't seem to change the damage dealt or the stab area, it drastically removes how satisfying backstabbing is, as if you'd remove the minigun sounds from the heavy.
Normally it's like BAM! You're dead!, the alternate feels like a bitch slap.
