Anyone up for a challenge?

I have to price up some shiplap cladding for a customer.  This comes in lengths of 5000mm with a hight of 150mm.  I need to check that I have worked out the right amount of lengths to sell the customer.

One side of the building to be clad is 11800mm wide x 4270mm high
with 3 windows 1090mm wide x 1370mm high and 3 windows 1090mm x 1270mm

The other side is a gable end, the square bit is 6858mm wide x 4270mm high, the triangular bit 6858mm wide x 3048mm high.

So, class how many lengths of shiplap cladding does the customer need?

Uhm... about 3 apples? What is shiplap cladding anyway and can you, like, saw/break off that thing if it's too long?

(Length of house/length of cladding peice)*(height of house/height of cladding peice)= entire wall done
Entire wall done - ((height of window/height of cladding peice)+(length of windows/length of cladding piece)) = amount you actually need

I could be wrong but i think that's right.. my algebra is a bit weak

It's hard to provide an exact best estimate as it depends on how the cladding has to be laid out aesthetically and how to do it so as to best  optimise the amount of cladding used. It also assumes that the shiplap is laid from the floor or ceiling up and the windows are just cut out (i.e. the shiplap doesn't line up to the windows etc.) but if you do calculations based purely on the area of wall to be cladded then you get something like the following:

Gable End:
Rectangular Area: 29283660mm^2
Roof Space: 10401300mm^2 (ignoring extra required because of mitre-ing the edges to match the roofline...I could go into more detail on this but i'm naked and going to be late for my lecture)

Side With Windows:
Without Windows: 50386000mm^2
Area of Windows: 3*(1384300mm^2)+3*(1493300mm^2) = 4479900mm^2 + 4142900mm^2 = 8632800mm^2
Area of wall removing area of windows: 71753200mm^3

Area of one piece of cladding:
750000mm^2.

To get the number of pieces, divide the areas above by the area of one piece of cladding.
Gable End: 40 pieces for rectangular area. 14 for the roof (plus some extra as wastage/offcuts needed)
House Side: 96 pieces.

Total pieces needed: around 150.

Hmmm, I made it 105 lengths.  I worked it out differently though (and I have drawings with measurements in feet and inches)

It's plastic cladding that slots together and can be sawn.

Edit; Have tried to upload the drawings but the computer says no.  I now make it 122 lengths after double checking

I made it 122 lengths as a maths exercise Milli, but you'd definitely want more for offcuts and waste.

Thanks for you help, I have to order them in packs of 5 anyway.  Now ready to ring the customer and give him a £4000 heart attack, that'll teach him to want yellow cladding.
