seems like a HDD error to me... Most likely the cache or something? Have you tried a different primary drive?
I still think its software. It seems very unlikely that a hard drive error would always produces a fault in the same module when right clicking a specific context menu (i.e. recycle bin). Besides, I've been able to see this error using two separate hard drives now.

It's out to get you.
Install Xp and then ask Santa for Win7. I'll back you up if he asks if you've been a good boy.

santa wont trust you when he sees what you've done this year Also, Junta you're most likely right, didn't read a lot of this thread.. but if it happens from a fresh install, there might be something wrong with your disc? with no software and it still happens.. try downloading a new iso image and burn that and start again from that disc instead of the one you have

Have you tried new motherboard drivers, or failing that flashing the bios?
Edit: Try swapping the power supply, it may be an intermittent fault

Its a software issue mate. The system event log indicates a faulting module of explorer.exe the main thing is that for 80% of the time I never see the error. I can use my PC for a week and only see the error one day, but on that day I'll get lots of explorer crashes and explorer restarts - specifically linked to right clicking the recycle bin (to empty it). I don't see BSOD or instability, just Windows Vista continually telling me that Explorer has had a problem and will need to restart 100% convinced its software, not hardware Been happening since July - which coincided with SP2 being applied just prior.

what software do you have installed? are you downloading it fresh each time (if it's downloaded) or installing from a disc/usb drive?
Do you download drivers or install from disc?

I remember you said you had this error on Win7 RC, so this might not be conclusive.
Nonetheless: Have you tried to reset your BIOS to default settings to rule out any setting errors (memory timing etc)?

Hmmm, might be worth partitioning and trying Windows 7 if you know anyone who has a copy. You can always take a few days to try it out (export some steam games etc. to not be lonely there) and not activate it. I don't know if it'd fix it, the RC did have some changes made to it before final release.
