awww, I got all the bronzes except smoke launcher and garand, but apparently the insignia counts the garand, except the garand doesn't track kills, so no bronze on it atm. Doesn't make sense that the garand is counted though because how do non-vets get the insignia?

Anyone who wants the garand though, sign up to bf heroes and play one round. Its not great but its all right and you get 700 whatever points free at the mo. Should automatically give you vet status after you've played. Garand is pretty decent.

Strange how the older WW2 guns (Garand for example) are given a higher rating in this game than most modern weapons... I wonder why..

The garand had a flaw in the magazine / loading in real life, meaning that to change the magazine as quickly as possible, people used to fire off the rounds rather than try and change the mag if half empty.

most other games i've seen just don't let you reload the garand except automatically by emptying the mag. They could just add a reload delay to reloading mid mag though. I prefer the m14 although it has almost identical stats to the garand but a little worse, you just can't hit anything with it because of the awful awful sights. The garand has nice sights because thats all you were going to get, the m14 is supposed to have an attachment on it so the iron sights are rubbish

well, I just got my smoke launcher up from 1 kills to 30 kills today. No bronze for it, just like power tool . So yeah pretty much its the garand screwing up that insignia

It's a shame for us all that conquest mode is a vestigial limb, dragging clumsily behind the body of the new Battlefield, along with such things as locational damage (I miss locational damage. Did you know that in BF2 if you were fighting someone with heavy armour, you could bypass it by aiming for extremities rather than centre mass?)

New rush map is win though. When they gonna make that massive desert one into rush. That'd be fun.

I just had an interesting epiphany ...
When picking a server I usually choose on running conquest because I like conquest more than the other modes. The major reason is that the other modes rely heavily on skill, while conquest adds more of a broader tactical level to the game. You can outsmart the opposition to a higher degree than in the other modes.
That's probably the reason why I'm usually doing better on conquest maps (not because I'm smarter, but I can better compensate my lack of skill).

And in retrospect that's probably the reason why I really loved BF2, because it was all conquest (IIRC).

The vehicles certainly still have locational damage, the apcs are actually unbalanced :O, the russian one takes slightly more damage in the front than the american, still double damage to the side and rear of most heavy vehicles. And perhaps locational still applies to people with the body armour spec, just noone takes it except this jerk on one server who had sprint and armour so he could run around knifing people.

Conquest though, I really think we need to see some pc exclusive maps which are bigger 3 flags is not enough for me. I'd like the maps to range up to about 7 but 5 is probably a good number. the new conquest map for instance is based on a rush map so ok it ends up fairly linear but iuno they could maybe be less lazy and extend the town width-wise, or just linearly extend another 2 flags onto it.

I'm still confused about the code thing. They insist every copy of BFBC2 has a code in it, but mine didn't. However I can play the VIP maps delivered with the game. Will they make up their mind already?

They wern't clear at first but if you read the later announcements at the end they mention the maps are available to all pc owners through a patch.

I'd like to see that, but maps may end up with a ridiculous playtime.
