There was some problems, I'd mainly say with 2, it could get VERY frustrating on an open map, trudging to get to some stupid objective and meeting something basically invincible (tank, chopper, plane) that would just ice you without you really having much chance to return fire.
There was also some pretty serious grenade spam issues, trying to shoot some guy who just jumps up and down, throwing grenades at you in open ground is no way to play. Plus the dolphin diving was just stupid because a lot of the time the hitbox was no where near where it was meant to be.
HOWEVER
BF2142 the much maligned "UH IT'S JUST A MOD" sequel remedied most of this, there were more city maps, planes were replaced by airships, which could do a good job of nuking vehicles, but often struggled to take down people. Artillery similarly, became something that could take out vehicles quite well, but would struggle to kill a person if he was smart and ran for cover.
Tanks became much more vulnerable to anti tank weapons (In BF2 it was quite a leet skill to manage to take out a tank, took two missiles to the tracks, head on or from behind if I recall)
There was still some annoying base rape vehicle murder with the APCs on a few levels, but nothing like before. And walkers became the new "How the F do I kill this thing" vehicle, but that's a part of the fun in BF I think, that you can't kill everything, sometimes you're just running for your life.
The problem with 2142 was I personally think they messed up some of the meaningful choices from BF2, such as having a medic (merged with assault into one grenade launching, defib carrying health crate throwing murder machine) and making smoke grenades useless (So disappointing) and heavy/light armour (Everyone took heavy)
If I'm reading it correctly, the class system seems a lot more open (I saw a char with an assault rifle/nade launcher giving out ammo) so it remains to be seen if there's a decent amount of variety in there.

never played project reality i take it? that was so much worse for walking for miles just to get nuked in seconds, makes you appreciate vanilla

nade spam doesn't really bother me, i got far more kills with random nades onto point than i got killed by them so it equals out i guess but dolphine diving was just BS and anyone that used it was a wanker for it.

2 to the leading edge of the tracks and any tank was a gonner. where things got tricky was when two engies got into two tanks and just repaired each other the who time.

camp gib was the best map for walkers as it had plenty of spots where you could get your rocket down on top of the walker and fuck their shit up.

I don't like how they dumb things down so much and reduce the number of classes, it works best when there is more choice. just three classes sucks, medic has to be made into a separate class as if its merged with assault like in 2142 then all of a sudden if has a self heal ability with the best guns. medic has always been the strongest class and making it stronger made no sense.
more classes and more vehicles i say!

Going underneath a walker and shooting a single rocket into it's exhaust was always awesome.
I just hate nade spam because it's such a cheap way to die.
But yeah, you gotta have class variety or the game is just.. stupid. I like becoming good at a specific role, and if all the roles are the same, I get annoyed.

if you can earn them later i'd rather earn them. I don't like this assumption developers have that earning unlocks is hard work tho and not fun. I mean if they think that I'm worried thats going to affect their design decisions and make them even less fun. Like valve assumed i'd be happy when they 'gifted' me all the medic achievements, and that I derive no satisfaction from doing them myself. If they are that unsatisfying to do whats the fucking point?

I wouldn't be so sure that they'd unlock. EA/Dice in the past have made it so that there's just items that you cannot use without purchasing an add on pack or special edition or whatever. You just have to pray they're balanced.

At least the preorder weapon is the same weapon that was available in the first game, the other stuff seems to be some form of perks that you can unlock and include in your class configuration - stolen from a german BF related site I found through google. ^^
EA messed up a lot in the past, but I actually find them being pretty reasonable for at least a year now. Still a bad idea giving some players a bonus from the begin on. They could've include a real mortar or something instead! Man!

previous preorder bonuses were weapon skins, the 2142 gun annoyied everyone because it took up half their screen haha. Special forces for BF2 did add a second set of weapon unlocks yeah, some better than the originals some worse. Northern strike mitigated things slightly by making all the exclusive unlockables, field unlockable by everyone else so you were only paying for the privaledge of not having to follow orders and click a few menu items.

Apparently the new classes are:

Assault: Uses automatics that have a secondary fire such as grenade launcher. The Assault class can also drop down ammo boxes for teammates to pick up.
Engineer: Uses automatics, most of which have suppressors. Gadgets include rocket launchers and a power drill that can be used to repair vehicles or kill others.
Medic: Uses high-powered machine guns such as a SAW. Gadgets include health packs and defibrillators. If a teammate is killed, there's a ten-second window in which a medic can revive a fallen player. And yes, you can also kill people with the defibrillator.
Recon: Uses sniper rifles; Gadgets include C4, sensor balls that increase your radar strenght or a handheld unit that can call in mortar strikes.
Glad they've made medic a separate class again. Should allow me to focus on destruction.
The main thing you need to pay attention to though, is that video, where the dude is driving a jeep, a tank sees him and then he's dead.. yeah.. that happens constantly.

thats weird that the old support class has been split between medic and assault like that. I guess it makes assault less of an unstoppable killing machine without access to health stuff as well but medic better get other guns than the stupid SAW
