Did a clean install of Windows XP on our laptop the other day and downloaded the latest version of Firefox. Last night it was crashing every 5 mins and giving an error message on restarting that someone was using that system ID or something. Never had this error before, has anyone else?

Addons disabled? Did you create a new profile? (run "firefox -p") If not, try a new profile.

To be honest, firefox has been getting worse the last few updates, it crashes everytime I download something now . If I didn't have about 60 RSS feeds I'd totally change it to something else.

hmm.. if it's crashing when you try to download a file, have you tried an external download client? I used FDM for a while and found everything downloaded quicker (did some benches but only did mental graphs hehe)

I'll delete it and use the older version that I have on my memory stick

If my memory serves me well, I think you referred to using AVG in another thread? If so then it could be the problem I used to have, try uninstalling that and installing some different virus software and see if you still get the problem.

<3 Firefox 3.5, no crashes here.
I actually really liked chrome, but can't live without the addons and greasemonkey.
With Foxmarks and FEBE it takes me hardly any time to get things back to how i like them on a fresh install too.

I'd recommend updating, once a few plugins of mine were updated (although Google Gears still isn't...), I made the push. Mainly it's waiting on plugins and theme support
