I was going to install Win 7 today, but it refuses to behave Sad

I set my pc to boot from the disc, and just as it says 'Starting Windows' i get BSOD, every time. Any ideas what could be causing this?

Is the BSOD perhaps a bit more specific or is it just giving you the finger?
Does it happen while preparing the install environment or during the first boot?
It appears Win7 creates a seperate partition which it uses to store the temp files. Enough space? Empty disk?

Meanwhile:
- Try setting your BIOS to default values. Helped me during my install.
- Consider to install from an USB stick instead of disk (if your BIOS supports it) to circumvent problems with the drives. Also will speed up the install.
Also: Any new components?

Finally got around to installing Windows 7 Ultimate on my main rig..
Its great

I had already used it because I installed it on my grandads rigs (he has 2) and my mrs got a new laptop with it on

Getting everything the way I like it is nice, but no dreamscene Sad

Screw XP Mode.
Installed VirtualBox today, set up my XP as a virtual machine and now I can use my scanner again (for which no 64bit drivers exist for Vista or Win7).

I will most likely survive not being able to integrate my XP applications into the Win7-UI ... Tongue

XP mode is an auto install into the MS thingy dude... If you have a copy of Windows XP I guess you don't really need it.

Not as seamless as XP Mode (Applications in your virtual machine can be called from shortcuts in the host). Also I suspect that the VM runs as process in the background and can the accessed instantly, while any other VM has to be booted first.

When I was using XP mode it just booted XP, but then again I hadn't installed anything to it, so hadn't got any program shortcuts I guess! I'll try it again once I reinstall (and have a working PC...)
