Bizarrely unpleasant article on the dedicated server crap going on.

Have they really learned nothing from Left 4 Dead's attempt at this? For a game which gives better weapons to players as they increase in rank to be trying to fix skill disparity by force is a bit weird, really.

That journalist and the Infinity ward guys are douches. L4D matchmaking is still pathetic for organising anything halfway decent and I only use it for quick random games and still end up in crap servers with assholes. I'm just thankful valve have left the server browser in and not screwed us completely. It will severly damage the communities, random games get sickeningly boring after so long, I only stick in TF2 because of decent clan servers. Maybe one day valve with fix their matchmaking and itll all be awesome but I've seen the xbox matchmaking on MW and its worse than L4D and even if valve eventually make matchmaking awesome i'll still want the server browser.

im going to hold my tounge and see how things turn out, at well at first NNNOOO bad idea, BUT from what i can tell clans can still play together and there is logic behind what there doing, from what i can tell there fed up of clans and moders being in charge and are going for larger communty (ie like me who just wants to play) if the match making works and clans can still play together though privte system or friends system, then i cant really complane. im going to wait and see how ti turns out as it could acuttly improve the sitwaytion. either way global agenda just kicked the arse out of anything these guys are doing with there priceing system (IE pay for the singal player and if you want to play the mmo side of it month pay for that month if not you still get the rest of game and it just plays like TF2 BILLRENT idea, pay for what you use

I still don't quite get what they removed exactly.
One sentence sounds like dedicated server, one sounds like the server browser.
They don't plan to host all the servers needed themselves do they? That must cost a fortune!

Looks like they're basically doing it console style, so yeah. They've released no dedicated server code and from what I understand there'll be no server browser. Enough to put me off picking it up on launch at the very least.

Edit: Put it this way: no dedicated servers = no communities like this one. I sincerely doubt I'd still be playing TF2 without WDG.

Srsly, have you tried playing TF2 on your own lately? Or even with one or two friends? Totally different, more sucky game.

I'll not be getting it fast then, especially as I said at the price for a now-gimped product.

the petition was at 125,000 signatures when I signed. I wasn't getting it straight off anyway but i'd hope with that many signatures already they realise the error of their ways and the negative impact on sales they might see. Then again they have legions of console fans who don't care in the slightest and will be buying this on launch because theres not much else decent for them to play so i'm not totally surprised they are being douches to their PC customers.

i think this is more a sign of the times than anything else, 125,000 people is nothing compired to the million units worth of casual PC gamers who bitch about modders and clan gamers who in there view ruin the games by makeing them to comptive which to some degree i agree with, but still
