So, umm, I have a feeling I might have forgotten to mention this, but I've been in Ireland since Saturday! Just back home this evening. It was surprisingly sunny, much Guinness was drunk, fun times were had. Oh, and as the hotel had been kind enough to leave a copy of my biography in the room, I thought it was only polite to sign it before I left.

The ROI recently passed a blasphemy law, so you could actually be arrested for that

You get the eternal gratitude of the Catholic church and Mode gets to meet the Irish Inquisition (like the Spanish Inquisition only more kneecapping and less comfy chairs)

thats weird the uk only just repealed our blasphemy laws last year from 8 July 2008. Maybe the Irish are just trying to be different.

Slight correction: the law has been passed but it won't be implemented until October, so you're safe for the time being.

weeeell just to be sad i did some more reading, the "prohibition of blasphemy" was already in place like it was here until it was repealed last year. The new justice minister decided there needed to be new legislation in place because a trial for blasphemy was acquitted in 1999 because the law didn't say what to do when it happened just it was naughty. Why hes decided now to introduce actual penalties after 3 justice ministers didn't bother and the UK and other countries are finally clearing those laws off the books who knows. Insert racist joke about the irish being racist/religiously intolerant here.
On a more amusing note liberty groups are planning blasphemies to try to test exactly how much blasphemy is needed for prosecution. Maybe you can submit your entry into the competition mode, you win if you can piss off the vast majority of a religion apparently. The prize is 30,000 Euros but not for you
