A while ago i posted asking for help with my mums hard drive probs, and we have reached the point when we need to find someone to try and recover the data.
Where the hell do we go? Anyone recommend somewhere or someone? Should someone we choose be saying certain things, or have certain acreditations. I am completely lost with this so hoping you lot won't be...

not that i've seen the previous thread but did you try some programs. I used wizard recovery awhile back, couldn't save everything because you need a new hdd to copy the data to but it recognised all the files i was after. Just waiting on monies for new drive

Hex, I used a company in Northern Ireland recently. Very good. Found them via Google. http://www.easyrecovery.co.uk/They were brilliant. About £200 (which I though relatively cheap considering what this type of service used to cost). That would include a replacement drive though I shipped them an external for my data. Takes about 3 days - I kid you not. |

That's awsome! I'd be supprised to get change out of £900. So £200 is astounding. And a 3 day turn around? I'm book marking that one. It'll save me having to download all my porn again in the future.

Just had a quick gander. The prices have gone up a bit, but only a bit. The're after £249 + VAT.
Still bloody good.

Look it might have been £250 but it was in that ball park. Shipped the drive next day delivery. Fixed Day 2. Available for return by day 3. In the end in took me 5 days 'cos I had to ship out my external drive for them when I decided didn't want data on internal.
Yeah, same exercise cost me about £1k a few years ago and the data recovery was only partial.
Like I said. Bloody good service. They actual talk to you on the phone and return calls!!!

noones mentioned the level of damage here. i've used http://www.easeus.com/datarecoverywizard/ in the past and its worked fine (did not pay for the software *whistles*). is it definitely physically damaged and not just a corrupted file table? |

I've tried with various things, including several recovery programmes, but the PC doesn't acknowledge the exhistence of the drive so the software did nothing.

Does show up in the bios, but only if u hunt for it, but shows a smart failure in the boot up if u attempt to boot from the faulty drive. Can't see it in the OS. When connected via a usb enclosure, it see's the model of the HDD but no drive icon appears.
