It came to my attention last night when a member of NuB asserted to a member of the public that "WDG came from NuB". This is however, untrue, but I suspect that it was said in haste and not intended to be misleading. This probably resulted from the fact that the 3 founding members of WDG, Junta, Mass and myself were members of NuB before WDG was officially launched.
However, the 3 of us were friends long before TF2 was released. Mass was clan leader of a CSS clan called BSF, of which I joined shortly after it began and became a deputy leader myself. Junta was one of most loved clan members and was formerly in another clan with Mass called MoD. When TF2 was launched, Mass and I quickly realised the potential of such a game and chose to end or time in BSF and began drawing up our plans to create WDG. The name WDG incidently, was a follow on from BSF, British Special Forces, namely the S.A.S., who's motto is 'Who Dares, Wins'. A simple adjustment to encapsulate the ethos of the clan, it being for fun and non-competitive, Who Dares... Grins! was born.
During the time that we were in planning, we roped John into coming in as a 3rd Clan Leader. We set up the basis for the forum and shopped for servers and looked into potetial recruits from BSF. As this was happening, we began to play on NuB's first server, just as they were getting started. DI@F (Egg) invited Mass and I to join. We accepted on the understanding that we'd use our experience to help get NuB going, populate the servers etc, but that we would eventually leave in order to start WDG, which was already in the making. This was the begining of a friendship with DoomWolf, Egg and Nub that has now lasted over 18 months and we feel is still going strong. WDG launched. Junta, Mass and I, all members of NuB at this point, left as agreed. Mass has since moved on again and we have recruited several of the ex BSF members. HeX, Deadly, Gonk and Wing to be precise
.
So, my point is that WDG were in exhistence long before we were in NuB and although we are proud of the part we played in NuB and honoured by our continuing relations, to say that we came from NuB isn't strictly true.
History lesson over, questions to follow
