I've got 7 SSDs in various comps now, most are over a year old. No problems that weren't my own fault.
The SSD return rates were published by a big french retailer, Intel drives were around a 0.5% AFR, and other manufacturers were around a 2.0%
Way better than mechanical drives in either case.
Still, best to have a proper backup methodology, since if they go they don't tend to be recoverable.

The new Intel 320 drives and the Vertex 2/3's are even more reliable, they basically run a RAID4 on the data, which protects you from a couple of the NAND chips dying.

The 64Gb Crucial SSD I had went back as it went faulty - they sent me a 128Gb replacement. I was happy - no problems with the new one.

I hate blog posts that says things without facts. Its why i don't have a blog. I'd get a secure backup plan for any type of drive. Need to earn some monies so i can buy a raid setup

Finally got around to putting my Force 3 SSD into my PC and reinstalling Windows 7.

Got about a 50% increase in read speeds and a 500% increase in write speeds over my 128Gb M225 according to Crystal Disk Mark benchmarks.

I still feel the need to build something like this thing...

Samsung SSD Awesomeness

I hate to think how much that would cost. If my insomnia doesn't improve, I may give it a go Smiley

EDIT:

I think the drives are about £257.86 each. and apparently there were 26 of them.

So at least £6704.36 just on hard drives.

That's pretty old now (3-4years iirc).  If you've got thousands to drop on storage you can actually get even faster speeds in a neat package with one of these bad boys now -

I need to buy an SSD today pretty much. Any recommends?

Windows update managed to blue screen and destroy the file system for everything it was working on, GG windows, although mostly it just seems to be .NET frameworks that kicked the bucket. Windows still managed to run right after and i've since recovered most of the file system damage with chkdsk, and sfc has fixed up the patches of damage to windows, it does seem to have boned the configs of some of the programs that were running at shutdown as well though. Basically a reinstall is long overdue this installation is 3 years old and has been fixed up with sfc a few times.

EDIT: Kaspersky is crippled :/ and so are several windows components (device manager and add/remove windows features!). Weird that its limping along with several bits hanging off.

Soooo SSDs seem cheap enough and I can certainly afford 1 as a system drive.

Also persuade me not to go into debt by buying a new pc on finance, this motherboard is flaky too.

Usually cow but honestly couldn't remember how to do one without my dvd. I have an iso from microsoft on a usb stick now, probably should have booted it, probably only an option that way. Too late now though old windows got deleted already. And I ordered an SSD already too so nyeh, might have saved me a few hours today but I gotta reinstall AGAIN monday night with a fresh install anywayz.

Disco - too late as you've already bought one, but I can recommend the Samsung 840's, £120 for 256GB on Amazon. I don't really notice any difference between this and my previous setup of two 80GB Intel x25-M's in RAID0 (which benched twice as much) so I'm not too fussed about not getting the Pro version. I'm only on SATA2 - If I was on SATA3 the benches would be around the same. As far as I can tell Verifying steam installs is the only thing I do that can actually pushes raw throughput outside of a benchmark.

Installed windows in 10 mins, lawl. Total setup time about 1 hr 30, although I had my usb stick with windows setup good to go.
