If anyone is interested, OCZ and OCUK are having a special offer to clear their old stock of Vertex and Agility drives in preparation for the arrival of the Vertex3. Very nice prices on them, under £1/GB for the larger models. These are all Indilinx Barefoot controllers, and good all round performers. In practice you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between these and the new models. http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18261030

Fresh install of Windows 7 is best. Make sure your motherboard is in AHCI mode. Have the latest SATA drivers on hand (Intel RST if you have an intel chipset)for your motherboard on hand (Intel RST for an intel chipset) When it's installed, make sure that hibernation and windows restore points are disabled to give you some more free space.

So it's an Intel RST for an intel chipset right? Just to be sure?

So it's an Intel RST for an intel chipset right? Just to be sure? I mentioned that one specifically because the motherboard manufacturer sites don't always have the latest version - It recently underwent a name change from MSM (Matrix Storage Manager) to Rapid Storage Technology, and it's best to get it directly from Intel. The repetition sounds silly but better than potentially confusing the issue.

Yeah, I'd agree using the one from the Intel site too, solved a few niggling issues with my drives (them appearing as removable in Windows for instance).

well i will make it easier. i have: http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_nforce_790i_ultra_sli_us.htmlon a q6600. now thing is AHCI cannot be done with that mobo i believe unless i use the red jmicron controller which apparantly are shit so i think it has to be in ide mode?

Blegh, yeah, it'll have to be IDE mode. Benchmarks will suffer but doesn't make much difference in real word use since home environments generally have low queue depths (AHCI enables the NCQ feature which is great for dealing with higher queue depths)

Picked up a 30GB OCZ Agility, reduced even further on OCUK Today Only to £42 with free next day delivery Not even sure what to do with it yet, probably put it in my server for the OS and VM's. Already got SSD's in My Gaming PC, Laptop, HTPC and both my parents laptops.
