Best not be a Linux Game Server then, because I've heard of server lag spikes from offloading replay servers.

Windows, but I'd imagine it's likely to happen anyway unless it throttles the replay upload FTP speed. At least when it's offloaded them it means that no more traffic will come about from downloading them

Hang on, not sure if I miss-read the FAQ on this. But doesn't opening the editor disconnect you from the server?

If you're on about the ones I was talking about Ripshaw -- then no.

The problem is purely server side where two things are happening:
1. Server bandwidth is being taken up by the server talking to the offsite FTP as well as talking to clients and streaming info from VAC servers.
2. Because of the high priority issue 1 the engine has allocated to this activity, the server is shunting more CPU; RAM, etc from things like gameplay to this new replay feature causing the server to drop frames and therefore making clients lose packets as they play.

Already I have heard reports from Linux server owners that this method is bugged and causes horrible lag spikes and have suggested avoiding it until Valve has patched/optimised the problem. Nothing on the Windows front, though - although we shall find out by the end of tonight.

or maybe apple pandering? pretty sure they could have picked another but i suppose it was easier to license already being involved with apple. And my default brain state does not acknowledge the existence of any apple product so yeah i forgot about needing to render on macs
